If that happens; I can see a massive drop in TV viewing figures for the teams breaking away as like A1GP it would be sold to the highest bidder and end up on satellite TV or cable limiting access to the sport while Formula 1 would continue on 'free' television stations like the BBC (if you can call the BBC free). If the manufacturers do go their own way, it will simply be an evolution of F1 and in time things will get back to normal with new teams and drivers; I'm not too worried about the future of F1.

Well Dorna, nowadays, are very free to view minded, when it comes to marketing their MotoGp. So I doubt that it wouldn't be accessible.

However it is a horrible thing to think about, a separate championship.

Maybe...

Maybe the true FOTA... The FOTA 8 should sit 2010 out and bank on some cash, submit new entries in 2011. However I fear if they do leave, getting back in might be impossible if the grid is full.

Ferrari: "Here is our submission for the 2011 Championship"
BE: "I'm sorry.. All Full Here"
Ferrari: "But we have a legacy and Link, these new teams are not fast at all"
BE: "BUGGER OFF!!"

Manufacturers could face legal challenge

By Adam Cooper Monday, June 8th 2009, 20:24 GMT

John HowettThe five Formula 1 manufacturers could face a legal challenge to an agreement they allegedly signed after Monaco Grand Prix, AUTOSPORT has learned.

Following the meeting between the teams and the manufacturers in Monaco, the manufacturers are believed to have agreed a deal that committed each of them to paying the others €50m each should they break ranks and enter the World Championship unconditionally.

The five non-manufacturer teams are said to be not involved, and Williams and Force India have submitted unconditional entries.

AUTOSPORT has seen legal advice presented to the FIA suggesting that the alleged agreement could be a breach of the UK's 2002 Enterprises Act and/or EU competition law.

Toyota president John Howett, who is vice-president of FOTA, confirmed that an agreement exists, although he would not comment on the financial penalties allegedly involved.

"I'm not really prepared to discuss any of the detail at all," he told AUTOSPORT. "It's a genuine agreement between the manufacturers on entering a sporting competition. It's about entry not boycotting and doesn't cover any commercial issues. I think it's a genuine and totally legal and uncontroversial document."

Howett is adamant the legality of the agreement isn't in question.

"I have to say it's been checked by the lawyers of the teams, by the lawyers of the manufacturers, who are dealing on a daily business with EU competition legislation on anti-trust. I have also been advised that the EU competition department was consulted by one party. So I'm fairly sure that there is no issue."

Howett also suggested that the version of the agreement that has caught the attention of the FIA may not be the final one: "I do believe that one of the documents referred to isn't in fact the document that was signed."

The situation is complicated by the fact that the FIA continues to insist that Ferrari is obliged to enter the World Championship under the exclusive agreement that also includes the team's right of veto on technical regulations.

This week at Istanbul Park, team principal Stefano Domenicali insisted that the team's position is that recent developments rendered that arrangement invalid. However, it is widely believed that Ferrari will indeed appear on the entry list when it is published on Friday.

Ooooh dear... Formula 1 manufactuerers going to Dorna??

What Dorna has done to MotoGP over the last few years (switch to 800cc, tearing up the 250cc class, allowing electronics to take over, messing about with spare bike regulations) has rendered MotoGP waaay more boring than F1. I'm not surprised the manufacterers went to Dorna though, considering how much Dorna has done for the big manufacturers in MotoGP (espec. Honda).

On the flip side, the thought of possibly having MotoGP and Formula One (or whatever it'll be called) on the same raceweekend is pretty exciting!

OK, I stand corrected on MotoGP, I didn't know that not being a motorcycle racing fan. But I stand by my statement; the BBC already have a binding contract to show F1 for X amount of years; so I doubt the BBC will be interested in showing a F1GP championship as well given the amount of cash they are already shelling out to Bernie Ecclestone. It probably isn't going to happen; I'm sure the teams and FIA/FOM will kiss and make up before the end of the season!

ITV would snap their hand off. Then broadcast it at the same time as the old F1 goes out with poo teams and poo drivers .

ITV would do no such thing. They couldn't afford it.

They afforded it last year and the one before and the one before etc etc. Theyd be offered it cheaper to get it established.

ITV is a sinking ship. All they can afford is football. They had a contract for the F1 for several years to come, but they opted out of it to save money, so they could spend it on football. It would have to be so cheap as to make it a worthless exercise for the teams in order to get ITV to pay for it.

It would almost certainly go to Sky or Eurosport.

But the teams would need the publicity more than the money initially so maybe they would do it really cheap
