Dunno, like many aging soccer, pardon, football players before him (Pelé, Beckenbauer, Müller come to mind but there were plenty more) Beckham now makes the move to the only country in the world where soccer, uh football still is the wallflower among popular sports and is generally still being viewed as a girls' thing. So what's the challenge? He said he wants to win things here. Riiiight! 250 million of them in 5 years just before retirement.
See? In F1 this could never happen. You can't get a sweet deal that pays for your retirement when you get older. You either perform at the top level or won't find a seat and get demoted to NASTYCAR or DTM or whatever, usually with a significant paycut. In soccer, you go to NASTYCAR (i.e., MLS) and earn a quarter billion dollars.

That's football for you, you have to spend 90 minutes on a pitch with a 15 minute break, spit, cry foul every couple of minutes, exchange taunts with the other team, and be kind of accurate every so often. Whereas a F1 driver spends 90 minutes at 110%, lining their cars up for 150mph corners, mm precision, massive risk, always accurate.

agree with marco, except for the massive risk!

British papers are reporting he will be on a £500,000 salary per week.
PER WEEK???
How can anyone justify paying him that much money???

There are loads of different prices that people are saying, i think its £128 million each year for 5 years. Which isn't really that much. :P:)

Spitz your numbers are off unless you meant a total of £128 million and not each year, which is about the $250 million we're talking about in the US.
