Wurz has submitted an entry to the 2010 championship, named Superfund.
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/75753

He's got the backing as well
It is believed that Wurz would prefer to align the team with an existing constructor based in the UK, perhaps renting space, facilities and staff from its factory, while Superfund takes time to build-up its own headquarters, possibly based on existing resources in Austria. This would also give the new team an opportunity to gain essential experience from existing expertise.

It is understood however that finances are already in place for Superfund to create a team from the ground up if necessary.

Personally I'd love to see Wurz team get a grid slot next year. Wurz is such a great guy, and having him back on the grid would be so much fun. Not only that, we'd have two Austrian teams on the grid. Seriously, get racing at the A1 ring again.

I think it's great that Wurz is doing this, I like seeing ex-drivers as team owners. I agree that he's a nice guy and I think he's sensible enough to get things right with the team. Being an ex-driver, he'll also know that results won't come instantly and he won't just throw the team out to the highest bidder after one or two years (see Midland and Spyker).

I'd like to see the Austrian Grand Prix back on the calendar, too. I liked the A1-Ring :)

wtf? i might enter team for next year. seriously, i reckon i'd be as competitive as half the people who have submitted entries. Do you reckon Max Mosely is paying these people to enter so it looks like his budget cap is attracting a ridiculous amount of over-ambitious entries?

Wurz is one of the best technically minded F1 drivers of recent years. In his year driving for Williams he was never quick, but his biggest selling point was his ability to help develop the car, which in turn helped the FW29 catch up to the pace of the BMW's right at the end of the season before he retired.

Wurz also has a great sense of humour, I'll never forget when in the ITV buildup to qualifying in Spain a few years ago they did a feature on Nick Heidfeld and "what other drivers think of him when they see him" and Wurz said "I think he should shave".

Neither did I, but it's cool.

He should've called it Wurz Grand Prix to see how Bernie reacted. I'm sure it would have been a poor name for a racing team.

Funny you should say that, didn't Wurz say a few years ago that he would like to buy the A1 Ring and bring it back into use as a motorsports venue??

I don't know, but I believe the current owner is none other than Dietrich Mateschitz, who is currently carrying out upgrade work in order to have it used again (although I'm not sure if he has any F1 intentions).

Imagine if the track was still in its original Osterreichring form with the small garages and they approached Bernie, he'd be in a fit of fury. :hehe:

Mateschitz's "upgrades" to the A1 Ring are certainly taking their time, I mean it was only upgraded recently by Tilke back in 1997.

I think Mateschitz has categorically ruled out the A1-ring ever being used again for F1 (at least while he owns it) - I did a bit of internet research after Gilles mentioned it on another thread...

Back on topic - I would also like to see Wurz get a slot, it would be nice to see an ex-driver led team on the grid - *mentally checking to make sure there are none there at the moment*...

It's fantastic that privateers now feel the conditions are right for them to have a go at Formula One once again, but a line has to be drawn with the sentiment. Wurz seems a great guy and was an exceptional test driver, but the sport needs the best teams to enter, and there are better propositions than Wurz's. That said, I wish him all the best; I'd love to see him back in the paddock, and running a team.

Even if he doesn't get his entry approved, I'm sure one of the approved entrants would consider hiring him to help build and develop their cars.

I think that would be a good idea. Would the new entries be subject to the testing ban before the 2010 championship officially started?
