Budget capping could ruin the sport...

Here's my two cents worth:

What would you rather have? A grid without the ferrari's, Mclarens, BMW's, Renaults etc but with a whole bunch no namers like USF1, and Campos racing, etc filling up the grid right to the back, or
A grid WITH the big names but a few less teams and back markers? I don't buy into the fact that F1 was destroying itself. So we lost Honda and potentially could have lost 1 or 2 more. Times are tough. The weak will faulter. People would probably still watch if it was only BMW, Mclaren and Ferrari slugging it out. I would. If these teams broke away and formed their own uncapped series in compitition to these newbees, I know which racing I would watch.
The balance would be restored again. It always has. Formula 1 has it's own little ecosystem going.

Things would be far better if the eff eye aye would just eff off!

I think maybe a cap is a good idea but not 40m, maybe 100m to help the smaller teams that are coming into f1 and that are already in f1 not to be left miles behind. Its retarded the way he has implimented it though or tried to, just saying theres a cap of 40m and expecting everyone to go along with it. They all need to talk to eachother. Damn Mosley and his BDSM !!! lol

Yeah a cap will help teams into F1, because thye can't come in trying to spend £200 mil, but £40 mil they can.
But the big teams and most teams now cant stick to £40mil

So 100mil is a reasonable compromise

I would say so, yes.
But drivers pay (if their pay is included) would have be reduced alot. KIMI.

100 million sounds ok to me, it was something i have been keen on since the cap idea looked like it was going ahead. I'd much rather there be no cap at all on the basis that the FIA will not be capable of policing it effectively and tbh, teams like Ferrari and McLaren have earned that money, they should be able to do what they like with it
#122718
Yeah Gilles makes a good point, but the new teams would never come in.
I am definately worried how it would be policed.

the reason the cap is sensible is because F1 really does need some new teams and has done for a while and it would be unsafe for them to be so far off the pace as they might well be in their first season. they need a bit of a leg up

It was excluded in the original 40 mil deal, dont know if its back in with this new deal?

I positively despise the idea of a cap. It is impossible to enforce, will lead to constant cheating and investigations and political bullpoo. The idea is horrible. If they want to make F1 cheaper..then MAKE IT CHEAPER. Stop changing the damn car every year. Stop requiring ground breaking and useless technology that the teams have to engineer themselves (KERS!). If you want it cheaper...then make it cheaper but putting an artificial cap on it will without question screw up the sport. This year alone should have proved that. IF we had Max's cap this year....every team that went the wrong way on the diffusers would have been stuck with them until the end of the year because they couldn't spent the millions needed for engineering. Or is engineering excluded? If it is, then what is the freakin point of a cap that doesn't include any of the expensive parts of the sport? I'm sorry, but these bottom feeding teams who think they can compete for 40M have lost their minds. If they have that small of a budget, they will not be able to afford a worldwide tour racing venture. Why make them believe that they can?

The cap idea makes me want to vomit.

I can see why Williams jumped so soon, they know they will be back to winning ways with a budget cap like that... They always knew how to do more with less...

I think the budget cap is an excellent idea, however, what we are seeing in the press is a lot of smoke and mirrors and hype to give us all something to talk about when there is no racing...

It looks like an agreement has already been reached, starting @ 80m in the first year going down to 40m a few years later. FOTA wouldn't have joined if they didn't know what was around the corner...

I think there is a choice of wwhat is excluded from the budget, with drivers salary being the main exlusion proberly.

Also excluded: salary of team boss plus one 'special' staff member such as AN, etc.
