F1live:
The Hungarian Grand Prix beyond 2012 is in doubt, reports out of the central European country on Wednesday said.

The economics and political daily Vilaggazdasag claims the Republic's government is questioning its commitment to the event, despite the apparent extension of the race deal last year for the period 2012-2016.

The newspaper said it has seen material showing that finance and local government ministries no longer support the Grand Prix due to a lack of central funds and the recent weakening of the Hungarian currency.

Cancelling the race prior to 2012 is not feasible, reportedly because the race promotion fees until then are payable whether the events are staged or not.

The Hungaroring, in Mogyorod about a thirty minute drive from historic Budapest, hosted its first Grand Prix in 1986, the first ever behind the Iron Curtain.

I for one won't be sad seeing it going the way the dodo went.

Some people annoy me.

You need to have tight and twisty circuits. Despite how boring they may be, at the pinnacle of motorsport, you need to be able to see how drivers handle these circuits. That's why Catalunya is my second favourite track. The Hungaroring ranks highly in my books - it's fun to drive on the playstation. The tight, twisty ones are always the ones I'm better at. :)

Worst circuits for me though, were Monza and Magny-Cours. My highest finish at Magny-Cours was 14th! :(

You complained that Monaco was boring, yet here you are saying F1 needs tight and twisty tracks no matter how boring they may be.

Will I miss it?
Depends on what they replace it with. Provided they can find a circuit willing to pony up the $$$...

Definately agree with you about Magny-Cours, that became a bore-fest over the past few years.

Still... YES!!! GET RID OF THE HUNGARORING!!!!!

Magny-Cours is a hoot to drive round. One of the best drivers circuits imo. The problem with Magny-Cours is the aerodynamics of the cars rather than the track itself. Other series's have no problem overtaking into the hairpin

It'll be a shame to see Hungary disappear from the calendar but I see quite a few European tracks not renewing their contract because they have posted losses in the last couple of years. I personally like Hungary because it tends to throw up some bizarre results; Damon Hill almost winning the race in an Arrows; only sidelined because he lost 6th gear. Jenson Button's first win of his career! But sadly economic reasons dictate much like French GP, Bernie needs to stop being so greedy and bring down the costs of hosting race events, no venue will run at a loss year after year!

I've mixed views on Hungary not having a Grand Prix. On one hand, it doesn't produce a lot of exciting races, but, on the other, it adds a bit of a variety to the calendar. As somebody has already said, drivers and cars need to be tested around a variety of different circuit layouts. Without this, the 2007 season would not have been worth watching.

And on the other hand it HAS managed to produce some good races, 1990, 1992 (Mansell's charge at the least), 1997 were good races, and then we had the chaos in 2006.
