Nick Heidfeld faces a struggle to keep his BMW Sauber seat beyond the end of this season, according to a report in the German press.

Bild newspaper claims the 32-year-old, to start his tenth Monaco Grand Prix on Sunday, has been earmarked for replacement by the Hinwil-based team.

The report said the team plans to keep Robert Kubica for 2010.

Triple world champion Niki Lauda commented: "Nick is in a trap. His contract is running out and he should be fighting, but with the car he has he is not able to show what he can still do."

Heidfeld added: "The whole team is not happy with our situation, and the same is true for me as well."

Both BMW Sauber drivers seem to have lost their motivation while having to drive the current heap of manure - why NH is being singled out beats me...

rumour has it, Rosberg is on his was to BMW next season, but tbh I would put a bet on BMW being there next season if this season continues as bad as it is now.

I agree, and he's done better than Kubica so far. I think people just like to criticize Nick because he is so low key.

If anything you would think the team was getting fed up with Kubica's constant complaining whilst Nick has been out there doing his job and sneaking some points and a podium home.

Mm hmm. The team should think themselves lucky, they at least have a driver who is capable of capitalising on exceptional circumstances and bringing them a second-place finish in a car that isn't even good enough to score points regularly.

No.
Nico will stay at Williams. He's pretty much said that he now has faith in team. But Williams are looking an experienced driver to replace Nakajima, and Nick might be looking a new team that can provide better.

Williams should definitely offer Nick a seat. Nick and Nico at Williams. That'd be a great driver line-up. But I guess it depends on how well BMW do for the rest of the year, and whether or not the two decide to part paths.

I would love to see Heidfeld back at Williams, either Barrichello (if he quits Brawn) or Davidson would be excellent choices. Davidson especially because it has been such a long time since Williams had a British driver, and for Davidson it would be a dream come true as the Mansell era and Williams Honda power was his inspiration in his karting days.

Uhmmmm....

What makes them think Robert Kubica won't leave of his own volition? I'm sure there's a couple of teams in need of a new superstar soon (French ones, for example)

BMW are doing Heidfeld a favour then! :whip:

I doubt I'd miss Heidfeld much if he retired, he isn't about to do anything spectacular. Nice driver but never got me excited

Does this excite you a bit more?
