I recently was talking to a mate about McLaren and Hamilton, we checked to see what the odds were for him to get on the podium in Monaco. At the moment it is about 5 to 1. I know that McLaren has had a dismal season so far, but Hamilton is pretty good.

Are there any new upgrades on the McLaren that will be brought out for the Monaco GP?

What do you think, can he get on the podium?

Completely ruling out Lewis for a podium at Monaco would be unreasonable. I dont think he has much hopes, but if he is able to gain positions into turn 1 thanks to KERS, then anything can happen (the same goes for Ferrari); after all, i can't see even a Brawn car overtaking a Mclaren or Ferrari with KERS at Monaco.....

5 - 1 are crap odds for Hamilton to get a podium i think, you'd basically be hoping for things to go very wrong for the 4/5 teams in front of McLaren! If it rains, a podium could be a bit more likely, but even then 5-1 wouldn't seem too appealing.

You really think that if they were to re-run the race 5 times he wouldn't get on the podium?

I dunno. If they gamble and short fuel Hammy for qualifying, he could make the first or second row. From there and with kers off the line, he'd have a very good chance of a podium.

It'll have to be another '96 for Hamilton to see the podium, unfortunately.

Cant see KERS having an impact off the line either, the run to the first corner is too short and track too narrow, you'd be relying on the car infront having a poor getaway.

Well, the race won't be run 5 times! I think it would be highly unlikely and one hell of a gamble betting on him, put it that way. If you really want to bet on him getting on the podium, you might be able to get slightly better winnings if you went each way on a win, might be worth having a look at... if you just wanted to try and win some money i think probably Webber, and certainly the Toyota guys would be on longer odds for a podium, but would actually have a better chance of doing it.

He has to improve greatly on Barcelona to even make Q3!

I agree with you on this.. I know that's a surprise.

Monaco will suit the McLaren set up as it is right now, plus the track suits his type of driving.Lewis knows how to win at Monaco ,he has proven that in F3 and F1 so he has it in him to at this circuit. I would say he has a chance at a podium finish and are slim shot at a win.McLaren know this circuit better than any of the teams their, having won 16 times which no other team has done.

Jenson button will have to change his style of driving if he wants to win a Monaco, having the fastest car will not guarantee him win.

It's going to be a great race and i will defiantly be on the edge of my seat. :ro

He was never going to do any better at Barcelona, they knew this from the earlier testing.

Monaco is not Barcelona and has a whole different feel to it.

He done the best he could at Barcelona and finished one away from the points having been at the back of the field at one stage.

...and he had to stay out on visibly shot tyres! That was harsh. As for Monaco, i really can't see any teams other than Brawn, Red Bull, Ferrari and Toyota making the podium on pure merit and pace, hence my earlier comments. Barring major incident of course, but that is unlikely.
