Lewis Hamilton says he is disillusioned with Formula One and compared his current situation to wrongful imprisonment.

The McLaren driver, 24, has had a turbulent start to his career since his rookie season in 2007, and this year became embroiled in controversy after being accused of misleading stewards following the Australian Grand Prix.

Prior to that that there was the "spy-gate" scandal which led to a £65million fine for McLaren for stealing information from Ferrari, and Hamilton is finding it difficult to accept these brushes with officialdom.

To compound Hamilton's woes, McLaren are off the pace this term, and the defending world champion was heavily critical of his car during the Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona.

"I just feel knocked out by it all," Hamilton told The Times.

"It's got to be a similar feeling to anyone who goes to jail but feels they shouldn't be behind bars.

"That is the feeling I have had, although I know what happened in Australia was wrong.
Politics

"I want to be a driver - I am not in the sport to be a politician.

"I used to enjoy Formula One and part of that has been taken away from me.

"I never imagined it would be so much politics when I came into Formula One. It definitely was a shock. There has been too much time taken up with it.

"Unfortunately, it is the way the Formula One world works for some reason.

"It's much nicer in the lower categories, where all the people are there just to race and the teams are there just to race."

Hamilton, whose hopes of defending his world champion title this season already appear extremely slim, added: "It hasn't affected my driving. I won't allow anything to affect my driving.

tall poppy syndrome.... once someone reaches the top every blood duckling vulture out there tries to bring you down. once someone else wins the title this year, the limelight will slip away and he can enjoy the sport again! until the winning happens where the same vultures will be circling!

That's Formula One and the mass media for you.

i think its sad, to feel like that when ya one of the best in your sport.

I think Mclaren need to sit down and talk to him, by what he is saying seems like he ant far from walking away

I feel quite sorry for him. It seems nobody prepared him properly for the crash after the hero status.

But he'll bounce back. Look at Jenson.

Its simple really. If Hamilton remains quiet on a number of issues then it will die down.
Except seeing as he is out of competitive spotlight, it looks as though he is resorting to complaining to get noticed.

I believe this was predicted in a thread this past off season. THE MOMENT Hamilton is not in a competitive car, he starts crying like a baby without a pacifier. Immature prat. This personality disorder that he has where he constantly needs the limelight is pathetic to watch in a world champion. When it was Jacques Villenueve it was pathetic and it is pathetic in Hamilton as well. If he feels trapped, feels scared, wants his daddy's thumb to suck on or whatever....get lost then and let someone else have his seat. It gets old seeing him constantly begging for attention.

I feel trapped...like a prisoner wrongly accused...oh whoa is me for being a formula one driving millionaire.... LOL

Alonso must be laughing his bottom off right now....

I do genuinely feel for the guy. All he wants to do is race. It has to be said, he's been extremely unfortunate that he joined McLaren only to be involved with a shed load of politics.
