I think it was Jo Siffert at Le Mans although the act of giving Champagne as a prize comes from the grands prix events held at Reims in the pre war era

dan sprayed the champers because the stopper/cork was loose.when it just popped out in his bottle he just went for it in the heat of the moment and sprayed everyone.he told me this in 1980 at watkins glen when i ran into him in the old pit complex.-cause i asked him.we also relived his win at spa.great guy. burt.

That is surely a cherished memory Burt, I'm jealous. One thing that has always made me like and respect Dan G. is his composure, he's always a gentleman yet you can still see the kid in his eye's living his dream.
