Hello everyone,
Just joined the forum and I am an F1 newbie from the states. I've heard some of the talk regarding the new USGPE (formerly USF1) racing team and also the potential for bringing a race back to the US in 2010. I'm wondering what everyone thinks about the likelihood of either. How good a shot is there for an American racing team and an American grand prix in 2010? Also, where would you all like to see an F1 race in America? I personally think Indianapolis is a horrible circuit for F1 racing...I'd much rather see Long Beach or Watkins Glen as the venue. What do you think?

I think Americans, for the most part, are too short sighted to understand F1. If the entire strategy isn't laid out in front of them...such as guys running around in a circle...it's entirely too complex for them to understand. I'm convinced that the dumbing down of F1 lately and in the near future is to make it simple enough for the George Bush types to understand it. Next, the SPEED commentators will start calling the show by calling each car out as 'the number XX car' instead of the driver and team....at which point I swear to god I will delete the channel. Nah, I love America...in fact I've given my pound of flesh defending her, but another Indy type race where American's throw beer bottles on an F1 track ... we just don't need. Why the real fans didn't slaughter those morons is beyond me.

Most likely cheap cans of Bud light, Miller light or Coors light rather than bottles

And can you believe people actually drink that s***? I can understand using such liquids to clean wheel bearings before re-greasing them or possibly washing the black streaks from race rubber marbles off your paint...but drinking it? :yikes:

Such people are not bright enough to watch F1....and probably should not be left alone for any length of time. :hehe:

Hey now lets not get too worked up, i do understand that we lack great beer and knowledge of formula 1. If we built a great venue to attract a race, it might gain some popularity. Just because we don't watch F1, doesn't mean we don't understand racing.

Let's make a deal, you guys send us some Formula1 experts and some beer experts, and we will send you...uhhhhh....well i dont know what we can offer.

I'm personally looking forward to the American team (whatever they officially decide to call themselves) and a new United States Grand Prix, but I'm afraid that we won't be seeing a US Grand Prix as soon as 2010, though I have some moderate hopes for the new team getting onto the grid by 2010.

I still don't think either a US team or a US GP would make a huge impact in the US, as far as winning over NASCAR fans to something a little bit more high-brow. I've argued racing with my NASCAR-loving co-workers, and as far as NASCAR fans are concerned F1 isn't even "real racing".

All they want is to see forty or more cars clustered close together at top speed and to remain at top speed, constantly shuffling in arbitrary exchanges of position. They also don't want for the manufacturers to have any real influence in performance, but rather for it to be all about this driver versus that driver and for the cars not to factor into anything at all. They don't appreciate drivers changing teams or for their car numbers to change from season to season, either. Perhaps most importantly, they want their racing to be American, meaning American cars, American drivers, all the races being held in the US, and perhaps most importantly wanting the whole thing to be born in America (which of course F1 wasn't). This would be a problem since the F1 teams drive cars from non-American motor companies, the cars are driven by drivers from other countries, and at best maybe one race might (hopefully soon) be held in the US with all the rest being elsewhere.

Ha! I think you are all just afraid that the US is gonna kick some European a*s! We may drink shitty beer and enjoy watching circle-jerkers run into each other, but we do know how to kick some a*s (especially in Europe)! Hahaha! :whip:

(For the sensitive: the preceding was a joke)

Seriously, is there anybody who wants to comment on what I originally asked? Has anyone heard about any developments about an F1 race in the US in 2010?

No news has been released concerning F1's return to the US, Bernie just mention's that he is still in talks which is utter BS. I'm PO'd now so I will end my rant with this post.

It would be good to see an American G.P, perhaps binning China in the process. But if the U.S are going to enter F1, then you'll have to massively strengthen the chassis to carry the huge bulk of the burger chomping Americans. (That too is a joke)
