Were they playing it safe.. told not to push too hard.. keep it in the points and hope that the Red Bulls would spin?
Mid race JB put in a couple of flying laps which panicked RedBull.. I dont think we saw Brawns true pace in the rain to be honest.

Yeah that's the goal of any F1 team... "Let's not win guys. We didn't spend a hundred million dollars to show up and win! Where's the value there? We didn't want all this attention, we just wanted mid pack, so let's gradually slide back there!"

Seems like the Brawns are nicer to their tyres - good news in the dry, but when it rains they can't get the heat into them as well as other teams.

Jenson Button (3rd):
"A very difficult race today and I am so pleased that we got both cars to the end of 56 laps and scored as many points as possible. The conditions were pretty crazy with rivers of water all over the circuit which changed every time you encountered them. The last turn particularly was like a lake and you just couldn't brake for the corner. I struggled with the car aquaplaning and the tyres shuddering as we couldn't get the temperatures high enough to make them work properly. Mark Webber and I had a good fight for a few laps but I just couldn't stay with him. However to finish the race today is an achievement in itself and to be on the podium is fantastic. We couldn't have beaten the Red Bulls and congratulations to Sebastian and Mark on a great result."

and Barichello had his own problems -

Rubens Barrichello (4th):
"It was a tough race in very challenging conditions out there today. I only had three brake discs working on my car for the first 19 laps which made it even more difficult for me to keep the car on the road. Thankfully the problem resolved itself when the brakes heated up during my first pit stop and I had a good pace from then but unfortunately it was a bit too late. However we got the car to the end of the race in difficult circumstances and I scored as many points as I could have done, so we have to be happy with that."

Only 3 brakes working the first stint!?!?

There is a mechanic somewhere on that team who has been chewed up one wall and down the other. The brakes are a simple system in comparison to the other aspects of the car and should never fail in that way. Sticking caliper maybe? Other than that, all I can think of is improperly bled brake line and either way a mechanic should never have allowed that to happen. Without antilock installed, I can't think of anything else that could cause that type of failure. With antilock, it can be a sensor failure but in a straight mechanical system....poor mechanic. F1 brakes are a straight hydraulic system aren't they? With weight being of such an importance, I'm wondering if the weight of the brake fluid didn't bring about some other system I'm unaware of.

I personally think it might have just been a 'glazed' brake disc, seeing as Barichello said the problem went away after the brakes heated up in the pit stop; although i don't know exactly why they'd heat up in the pits as opposed to on track.

Catching up to the RedBulls is one thing but passing them in such weather conditions, especially Webber. I think Jenson and Reubens made decision not to throw position away, bring home some decent points, still be leading drivers an constructors and live to fight another day.

Brawn had no wet weather pre-season testing. If they were conservative on pace, I'd think it a sensible precaution.

Though, I don't think they would have beaten the Red Bulls if they had gone all out.

The Brawn is too kind to its tyres to get the optimal performance out of them in the circumstances on Sunday. The car was still quick of course, but the Red Bull was much more able to adapt to the colder conditions
