Sutil has hinted that Lewis Hamilton's seemingly perpetual run-in with F1's governing body could be a case of racism.

As the latest scandal - dubbed 'lie-gate' by the media - occupies the Formula One world, the reigning World Champion's closest friend on the grid expressed concern about constant controversies involving Hamilton.

German Sutil, 26, who was the Briton's F3 teammate in 2005, believes Hamilton is "sick" of falling on the wrong side of the FIA's attentions.

"I have no idea how he has got so many punishments," he is quoted as telling his column in the Dutch Formule 1 Race Report.

"Slowly you start to ask yourself why it always happens to him. Is it his skin colour?" Sutil wondered.

I don't believe this to be true, but you have to consider it.

what pure rubbish. I am sure that anyone that comes into the sport and show brilliance gets that same scrutinising, lets looks at Senna? Schumacher? they all got plopped on by the FIA more than everyone else.

I am sure that this is Sutils with his Merc engines trying to play the race card to get Lewis and Mclaren out of trouble

No, I just think they are gay, not that there is anything wrong with it... :hehe:

I hate it when people cry racism for no reason. It belittles actual racism by association.

Precisely. The race card is pulled far to often, and more often than not in an attempt to mask the real problem. Hamilton is not being punished for being black, he has been punished in the past for being wrong...which is the reason such punishment exists. Every driver, hell every human, makes mistakes or bad decisions that cause them to fall foul of rules from time to time...and when that happens there are consequences...no matter what your skin color is. Sutil should be slapped for saying such a thing....pure ignorance. To suggest racism against an F1 driver...a series in which so many nationalities and skin tones compete, is cause in my eyes for punitive action on it's own. Sutil should get a wrist slap for saying such a thing to the press. I would not at all be surprised to find that this 'statement' of his had its origin far up the ladder where sponsorship for one team overlaps another.

It is really sad, I work with a guy, who is scared to get given anything like promotion etc, because he thinks people will feel it is because of the colour of his skin and not that fact that he is really good at his job

I should sincerely hope it has nothing to do with racism. But does anybody recall at last year's Hungarian GP a journalist apparently dug up some "dirt" on an essay that Mad Max wrote in the 1950's which was very racist towards immigrants from the West Indes?

I don't think they are racist, looks like the FIA are not going to be punishing Hamilton any more for "Lie Gate" I think it will be McLaren taking the rest of the hits which suggests that the FIA are more prejudiced towards McLaren than they are 'racist' towards Hamilton.

Why prejudiced? The facts are clear: LH and McLaren lied to the stewards and thus deserve punishment. No prejudice involved.

So much for your statements that you will be more objective when it comes to McLaren now Ron Dennis has moved aside.

Nobody is disputing McLaren have massively screwed up, but the FIA are taking things too far now, and were surely rubbing their hands in glee with another chance to punish McLaren came along.

Sutil is just sticking up for one of his friends. There is not a single shred of evidence to suggest the FIA are targeting Hamilton at all, never mind because of his race. If the FIA really were after Hamilton, there would have been no opportunity better than this to penalise him and destroy his reputation.

It would not matter who was driving for McLaren, the dubious penalties and over-the-top punishments would be meted out to the team exactly the same.
