In a briefing with a select few British reporters, the F1 chief executive said McLaren chief Ron Dennis prefers his employees all adhere to a company "brand" rather than display individuality.

"What McLaren drivers have anybody ever taken to?" the 78-year-old billionaire is quoted as saying by the Mirror. I'd replace 'ever' with 'lately' though

"The 'Jack the Lad' type of driver doesn't fit into the brand. There is just a way about them (McLaren people), isn't there?"

"Ron doesn't want to breed individuals, anyone who stands out," said Ecclestone.

He contrasts McLaren's featureless style to that of Ferrari, the Italian team who "let people do what they like."

I think Ron is talking out his corporate arse! Now that he has relinguished day to day control of McLaren to Whitmarsh and to the 'suits' who pay the bill's, they now have Ron on speed dial to voice their concerns or tell him what he NEEDS to say. Sad sad sad imho.

I agree that mclaren are like this

Coulthard played the Mclaren team role, he looked so much more relaxed when he left them for red bull, seemed to start talking more honestly too.

Ecclestone is at his handiwork again, trying to cause trouble between McLaren and Ferrari to disrupt FOTA. It won't work. It's sad that people have actually given him credence by citing his comments.

Oh right, Michael Schumacher never said anything that his media person (Sabine thing) hadn't okayed & it's McLaren that has the problem with people never saying anything. Where does Kimi work now?

Kimi does that too does he? I was just thinking of his lack of motivation since being allowed to "do what he likes"

Yeh hes really stirring s*** up at the moment.

such a cynical old fool

If Mr. E is trying to stir up trouble with this, he's not doing too well. It's hardly news, McLaren openly admit they have certain expectations about drier behaviour, and saying that some find it kind of cold and corporate isn't the newest criticism. I feel that way myself. It's a matter of preference.

Ecclestone needs to take a good, long look at this life. He seems utterly convinced he's superior just because of his "success", but the reality is somewhat removed from that.

At least Kimi knows to stop when the light is red.
