On March 17th, 2009, the WMSC implemented a new F1 World Drivers’ Championship Scoring System. This “Winner Takes All” system has been panned by fans. So I intended to present the Fans’ Grand Prix Racing Championship (Then known as Fans' Formula One World Championship) as an alternative. Subsequently, the Formula One Teams Association blocked the implementation of this new system (For this season at least). Nevertheless, I have decided to track the championship using the alternative system anyway.

Up until now, this Championship’s had a pretty limbo-like existence, half living as a page on my site, but mostly viewed here as a topic on Forumula1.com.

But now, I’ve decided to give the Championship its own website, and as such I’m changing the name - FOM get mighty touchy over other people using the term “F1”. As such, for its upcoming incarnation, the Championship will be renamed as the Fans’ Grand Prix Racing Championship - you can see its logo above.

I’m still working out all the details, so I’ll update you as things progress, including letting you know the URL and eventually inviting you to visit to keep up with the latest.

My plan is to continue to tie the Championship strongly to the Forumula1 community, since I see little point in developing forums specifically for the FGPRC when most of the people who follow it are already members of a particular Forum.

Points in the FGPRC are awarded for the top 8 finishers in a race in the following order:

12 | 9 | 7 | 5 | 4 | 3 | 2 | 1

1 Point is awarded each for Pole Position and Fastest Racing Lap.

The FGPRCC scores are the sum of the Team’s drivers’ scores.

Steward decisions where there is sufficient apparent dissent are put to a fan vote and their effects overturned should the fans vote the penalty to be unjustified.

Hmm, interesting.

Personally I'd rather see the FIA get of their fat asses and do something instead of us having to ignore their system. But all the same, I think it's not a bad idea ignoring their system as if it doesn't exist. A sort of protest. But truly, it would only work if it were on a large scale, which lets be honest, how on earth could we do that.

But all the same, I think everyone should just talk the whole way through the year as though this ridiculous system doesn't exist. F1 will still be publishing the 10-8-6 points anyway, so we just treat things like a normal year  Yes I hate the new system so much.

Sounds good. The wins system is rubbish.

BTW the WDC table has gone a bit wierd and out of line.

What browser are you using? Displays fine in Firefox 3

Damn them Windows users whinging hey Jensonb :hehe: it works fine in Safari for me :D

BTW you are so young and we have yet another Scot here??

lol, pretty much Bud. Looks like I might have to fire up the Netbook into creaky ol' XP and see what's what.

Yeah, 17 Year Old Scot

Edit: Okay, found the problem on my Netbook. Seems like the text was wrapping early under Windows. Widened the area for Team under FWDC and FWCC, sorted on my XP machine, everyone else seeing it properly now?

I've re-done the page a little bit (More colourful now) and added some more information, as well as linking to this Blog Post on the subject. Hope you like the slightly new look.

Oh, also, I changed the Page title to a more accurate one. So the link's been updated.

As it says on the Page now, I'm toying with the idea of allowing Fans to overturn unjust Steward decisions. So, if someone gets a Drive-through and the majority of fans think it was unfair, the time it took is deducted from their race time and their position altered. What do you think? I know you might get a few people trying to game the system, but I think the fans on the whole are honourable enough for it to be done.

Seeing it loud and clear now!! Brilliant. I think you ought to load it onto lots of F1 sites and send it updated after every race to the FIA...and to the teams. Could try autosport too, they might like it and print it for you. GO TO IT!!

lol, I'll try and get on that. Especially once it moves to its own website.
