From F1 Live:

Organisers of the Belgian Grand Prix are concerned about the financial figures from last year's running of the much-loved Formula One race at Spa Francorchamps.

According to RTL Belgium, the event held in September last year made a loss of 3.8 million Euros, moving the promoters to conclude that the displaced spectators of the French Grand Prix must now be targeted for attendance at Spa in 2009.

The report also revealed a Sunday attendance last year of 52,000, a full 10,000 fewer than in 2007.

I'm not surprised they didnt get that many people go!! have you seen the price of the tickets? I was considerning going to Spa as well as Silverstone this year then looked at the prices and thought no way :(

great, i do not want to see spa gone.

but i agree the ticket prices for f1 are daft.

i can go to the Oulton park F3/GT championships for about £30 - F1 at silverstone is £200

Still i went to hockenhiem last year £115 a ticket place was packed on sunday.

Bernie's waiting for his excuse to axe Spa and replace it with another crap Tilke track.

Doesn't bernie like Spa? I thought it was one of the ones he genuinely liked.

I think I can recall Bernie a few years ago saying he wants to get rid of "old classic" circuits and have a calendar full of Tilke tracks.

The ticket prices are so high is not the fault of the greedy circuit owners - Bernie charges the circuits & unless they are heavily supported by the local Govt they make a whopping loss.

What drives Bernie to raise the prices throught the roof? His greed but more importantly that of the financiers he now works for.

In short, the bankers.

Incidently this feeling you have about wishing to remove the livers of bankers with a rusty Swiss Army Knife - technically that makes you a Marxist.

Thing is he's looking at the specticle of F1 rather than the sport.

I mean Valancia was s***, and Singapore would of been the same if not for a crash and pit stop drama.

But as a race taking place near the americas cup docks - sheds or w/e and a night race they were good specticles.

hes a idiot, he just wants to get big companies intrested but the fans buy the big compaines produts and you sell F1 to the fans by making it exciting.

FOM needs to go FOTA needs to take over and self regulate without the FIA in my opinion using past F1 Drivers as stewards.

I agree Spa ticket prices are through the roof. If it were not for that I would have been several times already. But it is not their fault the prices are so high the blame lays squarely on Bernie's shoulders.

Spa-Francorchamps is a great track with great scenery in a good location. In the name of all that is right in the world do not take it off the calendar!!

It's probably my favorite track, and I'd be pretty pissed if Spa were to ever disappear from future race season schedules. Somebody needs to get on this and get something worked out.

There has been rumours abounding for the last while now that Spa may have "a Hockenheim" done to it; i.e. the authorities have been complaining about the track's length and are considering asking for it to be shorted. :irked::crying:

I remember Hamilton talked about the rumours last year about the track being shortened and I remember your words about it were along the lines of "Hamilton should get a life and grow some balls".

Why should the track be shortened? It's not like there has been any seriously bad smashes since it was renovated again for 2007. The days of Sir Jackie's near fatal accident, Bellof's fatal crash at Eau Rouge in a WSC race and Burti's scary accident in 2001 are long gone.
