Bridgestone and the FIA have now confirmed that they are going to use a green marking on the side wall of the tyres, to distinguish which tyre is which.

I don't know about everyone else, but am I the only one who is extremely ticked off about them using green tyre markings. As if the cars don't look worse already, the FIA wants green tyres. I get the idea of making an environmental statement, but its a bit hypocritical, considering they don't actually seem to be doing anything thats really making F1 greener. Its like wearing an "I hug trees" badge, and then driving off in an armor plated tank that does 2 mpg. It doesn't mean anything, unless your actually doing something about it.
:banghead:

If the FIA want to do something about the environment, adding a small green stripe is about the least effective thing they could do. How about actually doing something to make F1 greener, and then making a small logo representing greener cars in F1. I mean, they could run bio-fuels, something that A1 GP has been doing successfully over the last year or two. But a green tyre marking does nothing but make the cars look worse. The average person will not watch F1, spot the green tyre marking and think to themselves "that means F1 cares about the environment. Aren't they great fellows." Most will people will instead wonder why the tyres are green since it looks silly, and if they ever find out, then they will question what F1 is even doing that's environmentally friendly. So in my opinion, bridgestone need to rethink things, and change the things back to the way they worked.

I don't know what you mean about "look bad enough already" - many of this year's cars are the hotness (See: Ferrari, McLaren - first time since 2005) - but I certainly find the idea of using green stripes instead of white and the utterly preposterous reason to be little short of embarassing. :banghead:

Does Indy have a similar policy?

I to am sick of all this Green bullsh*t. the environmental impact of F1 is minuscule and irrelevant, and all you tree hugging hippies can go back to your tents and leave everyone alone!

Good luck reducing fuel consumption at 18000 rpm :drink:

Im not particularly fond of Hummers, but i would buy one and drive it all day just to piss these guys off!

I'm pro-environment, I just think F1's attempts at appearing environmentally friendly are dumb. Fact is, there are far bigger problems for the environment - like road cars, which should be more rapidly moving towards Hydrogen Fuel Cell.

I honestly couldn't give a crap what colour the tyre makings are, as long as the different compounds are distinguishable during the race. Surely it's the race that is the important part, not the stripe on the tyre. But thats just my opinion of course.

Everyone's scrambling to find something to talk about until the next test

I don't care. The look of the tyres makes no difference to how entertaining the show is. I didn't mind them at Fuji, so it's really no big deal. Now if they were to make everybody paint their car green, I'd be irked. But they aren't. :)

i think the FIA and bridgestone have got the wrong idea of green.

This is being Green

This is what they think is green

Stop it. - they will probley award extra points for the most greenest car.

on the subject of envrimentalism the new Brackley F1 car should not have "earth dreams" written all over it.

its F1 not f***ing tree hugging.

It won't, Earth Dreams is a HONDA program.

And Brackley F1 needs the money.

Formula One is meant to be relevant to road cars and involved in technological innovation. Rather than sneer at things such as climate change, you should see it as a chance for Formula One to evolve. Let's face it, Formula One is nowhere near as interesting as it was twenty years ago. The same principles that govern Formula One did two decades ago. You only need to look at the engine formula to see that.

By adding green tyre markings.

People keep saying formula 1 is not as interesting. Well what about the last 3 seasons. Especially the last 2. Was the finale at Brazil not exciting enough.

I think if you want more exciting racing, in terms of overtaking. Well thats what being done. The cars are now different, and should allow easier overtaking.

Nothing is wrong with the racing on track. Formula 1 as entertainment increased when Alonso took the crown from Michael Schumacher. We have had fantastic seasons ever since. I think the problem is that the drivers have no personality and so it is not easy to get 100% behind them
