Audi has finally released an image of its latest sports-endurance racer, the R15, while recently undergoing some final testing before its debut at the American Le Mans Series opener March 21 at Sebring. Although no details of the R15 racecar were released, as expected, it inherits the outgoing R10s louver-loving and vent-filled exterior bits, as well as its extra-wide Michelin rubber.

Last year, the automaker pulled out of the ALMS series citing the weakened global market as its reasoning, but stayed committed to the season-opening 12 Hours of Sebring race. Audi motorsport heads also kept enough in the banks for its pair of R15s to run at this year's 24 Hours of Le Mans in France.

Check back for more R15 details and race information as the 12 Hours of Sebring fast approaches.

I was kinda hoping for a closed cockpit, but this looks pretty cool. Is it me, or does the front look like a wider version of the Peugeot 908's?

i was thinking the front of an Enzo. However I can see where you are coming from. The driver looks a bit further forward in the car also

I seen this pic a few weeks ago. What a monster. I think Peugeot may have blew their chance last year. Especially with McNish at the wheel again of that new Audi :wink:

Yeah I'm glad I'm not the only one who sees it.

They obviously dont look the same, but you can see that front of the 908 was a huge influence on the new R15.

I think so too. Unless Peugeot got something up their sleeve, I dont see them beating Audi this year especially with McNish behind the wheel. I'm still amazed that he won at Petit last year starting from 2 laps down. That was one helluva drive.

I know i remember tuning into the start of that race and seeing him crash during the warm up lap. I then thought it was all over and kinda dabbled in and out of it... only to find he had won the thing the next day. And his pace was amazing!

Hardly the fat duck bill of the R29 - it's wide alright, but not fat

Yeah it was. I bet Klien crapped his pants when he saw McNish closing in on him, plus Klien almost lost it at the end of the straight making Peugeot crap their pants too. All in all it was a very sad and smelly defeat for Peugeot, and hopefully they challenge Audi again this year.

Will they be running their 908 hybrid they made last year?

I kinda see it, but its not fat looking like DD said.
