Seems spec series arent the worst. Definitely much better than Nascar :)

But the real reason i started this topic is to see whether the rest of the people here think A1 could become an F1 feeder...

Is the Ferrari backing a way to lure people into Ferrari F1, or a way for Ferrari to 'put their eggs in another basket' ?

I think already some A1 drivers could be F1 material, such as Bleekemolen and Adam Carol, and the malaysian guy is pretty good... But what i'm unclear about is if F1 will ultimately look the other way or recognize A1's position...

What do you guys think?

Very topical:
Today's F1live

Tony Teixeira, chairman of A1 GP, wants Formula One to buy his series ‘instead of copying all our ideas’.

At Kyalami for this weekend's round of the self-styled 'World Cup' of motor racing, he accused Bernie Ecclestone and the most famous single seater category of taking their recent cues from the A1GP series.

"Instead of copying all the ideas from A1GP, just buy me out!" he pleaded to the local The Times.

"Everything we are is what Formula One is trying to be," Teixeira claims.

He admits that the global financial crisis will have an impact on A1 this year, eradicating an earlier forecast profit.

But he said F1 pilfered A1's ideas; like using a single tyre supplier, similar specification engines, and the Force India-style concept of national team pride.

This year's standard A1 car is based on the 2004 Formula One Ferrari.

I don't see how he can make the claim based on those points. Formula One had a single tyre supplier in 1999, it had similar specification engines from the mid-'90s onwards and Force India chose the national team pride, thing, not the sport.

Now, if he said something about spec-engines/cars, he'd look less silly to me :)

Your forgetting the countless Goodyear years of being the sole supplier.
Not to mention the DFV dominance back in the day.
A1-Gp is for hasbeens or drivers who will never make the top.

I definitely dont think F1 is copying A1, on the contrary. The A1 guy is just propping up his bussiness...

But i dont think A1 guys are all worthless or have beens... Most of them are really young and several of the teams' people are reputable so these kids could be getting some valuable experience. Yeah some of the older guys may be over the hill, but probably there for the experience.

That guy from Malaysia was pretty impressive in Zandvoort, under heavy rain, twice... Not only this yr but also last yr's race at Zandvoort.

Keeping motorsport relevant, affordable and interesting is a tricky balancing act. In the U.S. NASCAR has done an admirable job of luring and keeping millions of rabid fans, but times are tougher for the road-racing leagues found elsewhere in the world. Formula 1 in particular is searching for new ways to stay at the forefront of the sport.

The young A1GP series, the self-styled World Cup of Motorsport, is blazing new trails in some respects, one of the only series to run in the northern hemisphere's off season. The Ferrari-powered single-engine-make, limited-cost series allows teams to compete on a national basis, building in low costs and clear fan bases.

Formula 1 hasn't been slow to take notice of the younger series' success, either - or at least so says Tony Teixeira, the Chairman of A1GP. Even though A1GP has proved highly successful in a difficult business, it's still struggling to meet costs and eventually reach profitability. Formula 1's recent struggles with the loss of the Super Aguri and Honda F1 teams and complaints over the costliness of competition have put it in search of solutions to similar problems despite its historic pedigree.

Teixeira referenced Ecclestone's imitation when he joked to Yahoo News, "Instead of copying all the ideas from A1GP, just buy me out!" The ideas Teixeira specifically had in mind were the one-engine make (a controversial proposal for next-generation F1 rules) and nationally-based teams, such as the recently founded Force India.

Whether those claims and accusations are justified, it's evidence of the level of frustration and effort at the upper levels of the global road racing series.

Doesnt really make sense, since your series' car is based after an F1 car. Plus criticizing F1 for having nationality based teams which, I'm pretty sure, Ecclestone has no control over is really stupid.

People talking about Fauzy
No offensive, but the guy had one good race and the rest of the times he's lame. He punted of 1 too many drivers this weekend. (Mainly the fact that he punted Carol of and lost us the series lead. That pissed me off)

But yeah, A1 is not a bad series. What they need right now is to straighten out the rules a bit, and get more races on their calendar. Something needs done about the pit lane. The cars are so close in the pit lane, that the cars have to serve to avoid each other, which causes the anti-stall to kick in. It happens about 5 cars a race.

As for Texieira, what that guys on about, I really don't know. F1 copying A1. Look who's using a toned down Ferrari F2004
