Its definitely going to put them on the back foot a bit. Even more so with the front wing problem, too.

Ferrari declared that they would be launching their car whilst not fully complying with the regulations and would be further developing the package, so this shouldn't cause them any problem. Their KERS system will cause them more trouble, I reckon.

The reason for their absense is the bad weather, which makes perfect sense considering the limit on testing. Not reworking the body, as the article said.

But I don't know really. I would've thought Ferrari would notice something that major. But who knows, it doesn't seem like that big of a thing.

Something that's come to mind over the past few years and I may be wrong so if anone knows any better please correct me is that while parts of the cars are designed to improve performance those parts could also be designed deliberately to have adverse effects on following cars as much as possible and I think the new rules to get rid of all the bits sticking out as well as simplifying the diffuser and getting rid of the chimneys is really to counter that way of thinking.

Yeah, accidents only happen on track (unless you're Honda). If the air behind the car is dirty, it's meant to be dirty. And if Ferrari have illegal exhausts, or illegal moving floor, they've done so knowingly for one reason or another. But I certainly don't understand their decisions.

chiefs at two Formula One teams have confirmed their belief that the current specification of Ferrari's new F60 is not legal.

A German magazine on Monday said the newly launched car, which is being tested in private at the Mugello circuit this week, features exterior rear exhaust outlets that contravene the new technical regulations.

Norbert Haug, in charge of Mercedes-Benz racing activities, is quoted by the German news agency SID as saying he believes the Italian team 'will change' the offending feature before the Australian Grand Prix in late March.

"Who knows, perhaps we are talking only about the launch version," he said.

"Every team knows that the exhaust pipes must be covered in 2009."

Similarly, BMW Sauber's Managing Director Walter Riedl said he assumes that the launch specification of the Ferrari exhaust was merely 'provisional'.
