From the BBC website...
Swiss Sebastian Buemi is poised to make his Formula One debut with the Toro Rosso team next season.

Red Bull boss Dietrich Mateschitz, who has two teams in F1, told autosport.com Buemi was "very likely" to be one of the drivers for junior team Toro Rosso.

German Sebastian Vettel has been promoted to the senior Red Bull team, while his 2008 Toro Rosso team-mate Sebastien Bourdais may not be retained.

Toro Rosso tested Buemi, Bourdais and former F1 racer Takuma Sato last week.

Japan's Sato, who has raced for Jordan, Honda and Super Aguri in F1, set the fastest times of the three at Spain's Circuit de Catalunya.

Mateschitz said the Toro Rosso line-up would be confirmed "before the last test in December", which is at Jerez in southern Spain from 15-17 December.

Buemi, 20, told the official formula1.com website after his test: "I am young and I learn quickly.

"The immediate past has shown that the young guys don't need too long to deliver results... Young drivers have shown that they can deliver almost straight away."

Vettel became F1's youngest ever winner with victory in the Italian Grand Prix in September, while Lewis Hamilton is now the sport's youngest world champion following his success this year in only his second season.

I hope Bourdais isnt left out because Sato looked better than both Bourdais and Buemi at the test. Im not really impressed with Buemi. I think his nationality and backing has got him this far

What difference does the fact that he's Swiss make?

sorry got my wires crossed, was thinking sauber for some reason...

anyway maybe he will be on the grid for the first race if webber misses it. Surely Bourdais will be stepped in for the winter testing at RBR because he is next in line. Sato and Baumi will be at STR. when Webber returns Bourdais will return to STR in place of baumi....

Webber won't miss Australia due to a RBR report. Plus, if he did yeah Buemi would take his place because he's next in line. I don't see Bourdais moving up to the parent team in his career.

I think it should be Bourdais and Sato they have impressed me the most Bourdais has had a very good season and it will be completely unfair not to give him. A lot of his performance has been overshadowed by Vettel's brilliant season especially since he got that win at Monza.

As much as I think there's better talent out there than Taku (even though I really like the guy) I definitely agree with you. Whilst erratic, Sato is very fast. He would be the risk-taker whereas Bourdais would be more the Heidfeld of the team - fast, smart, quiet and consistent. :)

Buemi needs another year in Gp2, to make sure he was the speed. He has consistency, but that's no good in a backmarker team. You need to stand out, and race like Alonso, Kimi and Vettel did in backmarkers. So Buemi for F1, I hope not.

Plus Bourdais deserves the drive, definitely. The guy did all he could this year, but it never went his way unfortunately. Plus Sato will provide the experience the team needs. It's a very good team, Sato and Bourdais if you ask me.

Buemi is not Formula One material (yet, anyway). Sato is a loser. I don't want to see either of them in Formula One. It's a shame that wasters like them are getting drives, whilst there's plenty of proven talent getting left out in the cold.

Buemi's only got this drive because of his Red Bull backing. Bruno Senna has far more talent and is more ready for an F1 drive than Buemi. He may turn out worse than Scott Speed, but I'm prepared to give him a chance. If he gets an F1 drive and Senna doesn't get the Honda seat, that would be totally baffling.

If Bourdais gets dropped for Sato then that would be the stupidest team selection choice ever made in the history of Sport itself. Worse than signing Ade Akinbiyi for £2million. If Toro Rosso do sign Sato then they better get ready for some repair bills and new monocoques to be built.

Much like Sauber's situation when Massa was driving for them. They had to bring a lot of spares, particularly front wings. :hehe:

:hehe:

On the plus side, their costs might not be that much higher given the width of some of next year's front wings! :P

If i were running STR i'd do everything i could to get Barrichello and Bourdais as the drivers for '09. Nothing else really makes sense given the situation...

:hehe:

I wouldn't mind seeing DC back in the RBR cockpit for one last romance with Nakajima.
