Shocking.

Piquet has got another 1 year contract with renault. While Alonso has signed up for two years, which is weird as I thought the plan for him was to got to Ferrari in 2010.
Well after the last couple of races he might now think Renault might go for a championship in the next few years, instead of hoping Ferrari will take him, and with his help Renault really has a shot I think.

I really though piquet would leave Renault after his bad results this year.

It was the worst kept secret in Formula One that Alonso had a Renault contract in his filing cabinet. Piquet being offered another contract was a bit surprising. His results in other formulae show he does have skill, so perhaps it's worth giving him another season to see if he can put all the pieces of the jigsaw together next season. Still, he is very lucky.

Alonso must be pretty confident in Renault's potential to produce a title challenging car for next season then...

...and as for Piquet, is it true that he didn't race in 2007? If it is, then my opinion of him has changed slightly.

yes, Alonso's contract wasn't a secret, but the fact that it is for two years was. All I ever read about was 1 year.

yeah originally but then both ferrari drivers now have 2 years on there contracts... does it make sence now?

Does Renault know something that we don't. Why keep Piquet. In my opinion, he's lucky that he's getting a 2nd chance, considering he finished 2nd to Lewis in GP2, and considering how well the later has done, he's failed to impress.

maybe renault like other teams are looking for stability for 2009 come to think of it. the only driver who has switched teams is vettel. Another point is that teams dont want to give away much about thier 2009 package

Worth pointing out that Piquet was in his second GP2 season in 2006, while Hamilton was a rookie.

I do feel for him a bit tho. I watched him at the first A1Gp race, where he drove really well and was great with the crowds, and had a bit of a soft spot for him.

alonso for 2 was a bit of a surprise, so if reanualt arent championship material there could be problems

piquet, well i had begun to suspect he was staying, but, well, i guess renault had the bet idea of comparison between the 2, but oh dear, i dont know if it can give renault the WCC, the one i want them too get
