I keep seeing it written in the papers and on the web that Lewis Hamilton is 'the first black Formula One Champion'...

Is he? Yes, his Father is black... but his mother is white... making him 'mixed race' surely?

Is he any more 'black' than 'white'?

BTW... replace 'Lewis Hamilton' with 'Barack Obama' and the same question applies...

Exactly!

Although, stricly speaking, he isn't 'the first human to become F1Champion'...

Who cares? I didn't even think about what colour his skin was until the people on the television and newspapers started going on about it.

Personally, it doesn't matter to me either... I was just interested in 'why' the media are pushing the 'black' issue over the 'white'...

Well it doesn't matter to me, but every F1 champ up until now has been entirely white, so if there's one non-white kid out there who's inspired more because of the colour of his skin, that that's no bad thing really.

Personally, I don't feel a person's race should matter one way or the other. However, looking at Barack Obama as an example, Obama would be the United States of America's first non-white president. So, it's not that important that he isn't all black so much as that he's not all white, which will be historic.

i really think this should not be an issue. if we want us all to be equal we would not even bring up race because it shouldnt matter if a black, white, asian, indian (and the list goes on) wins the title. race has no influence in your talent as a driver. im not blaming you for making this thread im talking about the media.
