OK everyone, time to put your money where your mouths are. What predictions do people make for next year.

1] Winning constructor

I predict Ferrari again. Stability, and improvement from Massa will help.

2] Winning driver

Too close for comfort. So I'll predict Massa.

3] Most improved team

Honda, because where else can they go but up the field. But I don't think they'll challenge for wins or the championship. Among top teams, Renault will move forward the most I think.

4] Team whose fans most complain about things

Need I say?

5] Most controversial decision

Something to do with KERS. Probably that cars are forced to either use it or not use it, disadvantaging some teams at the expense of others.

Any others?

nothing to make a basis on for next year! its totally up in the air!

totally different package next year so any predictions are based on ones hopes rather than logical thought

Are you saying that the chance of McLaren winning the championship is exactly the same as the chance of Force India winning the championship? If not, then things are not entirely up in the air.

did i say that did i?

so tell me exactly what part of the 09 package of Ferrari makes you think they will be the pace setters with Massa taking the crown?

BMW in theory should be challenging as they have put a lot of effort into 2009 already. Renault have been doing alot too. Ferrari and Mclaren are unkown, they could do well or they could go down depending on how much they gambled on the end of this year? Force India sound like there going to get a hand. Honda will look better. Maybe Toyota will continue there good work??

Its exciting all the same

Prediction: the WDC will go down to the last race, unless Ferarri pull out a clear lead sooner than that.

If anyone else gets a clear lead "stewards" will come into play

It would be the only reason for being able to not make any prediction at all and that everything is up in the air. Otherwise predictions with a better than random chance of being true can be made.

Ferrari have a well equipped engineering department staffed by some clever people, and have over the past eight years consistently come up with good cars. Things were down in 2005, but a tyre disadvantage (not happning next year) was part of that. This means that they have a better than average chance of handling the technical changes. For Massa, he convincingly beat Raikkonen this year, even with some bad luck (e.g. engine failure). Again, nobody can make an exact prediction, but there's a reasonable chance that Massa will outperform Raikkonen next year.

Hence I think that predicting Ferrari as pace setters with Massa taking the crown is a highly plausible prediction for next year. Or, I'd say that given what we know now, the probability of Massa taking the crown next year is as high or higher than the probability of anyone taking the crown. And that these probabilities are by no means distributed uniformly among drivers.

If you follow sports, I'm very surprised that you need to have the nature of sporting predictions explained to you.

That's a well-formed prediction, as it is falsifiable. If we did get LH winning the championship next year with a race or more to spare, would you then change your opinions on which this prediction is based?

Something to do with KERS. Probably that cars are forced to either use it or not use it, disadvantaging some teams at the expense of others.

1) Winning Constructor:
Yeah, Ferrari will probably win the constructors' championship again, and McLaren will probably be the close second.

2) Winning Driver:
I'm going to expect it to mainly be Hamilton versus Massa again for 2009. Hopefully both drivers will enjoy less clownery (on both the drivers' and teams' parts) and have a more impressive bid for the drivers' championship.

3) Most Improved Team:
I'm not going to make any prediction here.

4) "Team whose fans most complain about things"?
Well, probably either Ferrari or McLaren, I suppose. I'll have to see whether Hamilton or Massa falls behind the other.

5) Most controversial decision:
Yeah, maybe something with KERS, or a FiA penalty handed to Hamilton somewhere down the road.

Winning constructor McLaren

There. That was easy

Hmm. I'm going to be quite bold here, but:

1) BMW Sauber
2) Kubica or Heidfeld, depending on whether or not the car is better-suited to Nick than the 2008 model and how much it rains during the season/how often there are situations where his ability to sneak through and pick up great results
3) Force India
4) McLaren and Ferrari fans, same as usual. Well, maybe some of us who like Honda because their 2009 car is just as bad as the 2008 one albeit less ugly :(
5) Axing a great track mid-season because they were a few pence short on their fees

1. BMW - If they can get both drivers driving at their prime and they continue to show good consistency BMW could sneak this one.

2. Hamilton - The guy will be on fire now and battle Kubica for the title.

3. Williams - Nico will be the best of the rest and win at races like Monaco, Kazuki will also show some improvement too.

4. Ferrari - Somehow I have a feeling they might go backwards and Kimi will totally lose all interest again.

5. Bourdais - He'll get shunted off by Trulli at the first corner at Melbourne and will get a 10 grid penalty even though it will be crystal clear to even a blind man that Bourdais was the victim.
