All this year we've been hearing that the FIA is fixing the championship for Ferrari to win.

However, I'd like to ask the people propounding these theories to think of this:

The FIA has absolute power over F1 and doesn't care what anyone thinks. If they were actually fixing the championship in Ferrari's favour, they would have succeeded. Easily. It's not like they couldn't work out what to do.

I therefore think the conclusion is obvious. There was a dodgy stewards' decision in Belgium. But whatever people, claim, and that decision can equally be attributed to stupidity rather than malice, the FIA wasn't fixing the championship in Ferrari's favour. Otherwise a Ferrari driver would have won.

Lewis Got Lucky on Sunday, but let's not forget that, if it was not for dodgy decisions by the stewards (showing a bias towards Ferrari?) that were upheld by the FIA (Ferrari Internationale de l'Automobile?) Lewis would have won the title before Brazil.

In my book, the FIA and Bernie have lost all credibility, and should all be replaced - if not, our belowed F! will descend into a farce - we, the fans, will stop watching, they won't be able to get the huge mountains of cash from TV rights, and F1 will go bust - end of OUR motorsport!

I'd agree that the FIA have lost all credibility with Max in charge. And the sooner he's ejected in charge of someone more competent and experienced such as Todt, the better. But the point of this thread is to point out that the decision we saw in Belgium wasn't part of a larger strategy to gift the championship to Ferrari. Because had that been the FIA's motivation, the FIA would have succeeded easily. Nothing to stop them. FM didn't win the championship, therefore the FIA wasn't engaged in a conspiracy to gift the championship to Ferrari. QED.

If Massa hadn't dropped it out of 2nd in Sepang and his engine didnt blow up in Hungary he would have been champ before Brazil.

Apart from some very suspect stewards decisions I'd say that this season has seen a marked improvement in the relationship between McLaren and Ferrari (at least the teams, if not the fans). Good riddance to Jean Todt! There's been less eagerness to run to Bernie and Max when there's the slightest possibility that an advantage can be gained, so much better for the sport.

Whether or not there was and consiparcy behind penalising Lewis in Spa, or Massa getting no penalties for his pit escapades (esp with Bordais) I think is irrelevant now. Time to move on and accept that the two best teams got what they deserved.

Except that it is hugely within their powers to succeed if that's what the FIA wanted to do. So I think it incredibly unlikely that they did try. As if they had been, they'd have made sure they'd done a proper job of it.

Otherwise it'd be like the X-Factor judges slightly criticising an X-Factor contestant, but letting them through to the next round. If they'd wanted to reject the singer, they would have.

It's about more than just incompetence of bias. The FIA have got to consider television ratings and finances. If, for instance, they basically give McLaren a ten-race ban or something, the title race would become boring, so people would switch off their televisions, and Ecclestone may lose a few million. He couldn't have that, could he? As things are, I think the FIA and Ecclestone have got things more or less where they want. They need a competitive championship and ultimately to have some Ferrari success. I should say as well that's not just that the FIA dislike McLaren and support Ferrari, and that is has always been that way. A lot of it depends on who is in charge and who it is politically expedient to support.

In other words, they had nothing useful to say before so why would they have something useful to say now?
