I really expected this championship to be kept really tight with Kubica right behind Massa and Hamilton. What happened? Even Heidfeld was doing better than him! I blame the car...

Heidfeld is better in the wet.

Well Kubica has been crappy the past 2 qualies/races so I dont think its the rain. Its either him, the car, or a combination of both.

I don't think anyone can be disapointed with Kubica, he's had an amazing season, noone would have expected him to end up level on points with Raikkonen in the WDC.

Agreed, but the last two races have been serious letdowns. that's why I think something changed on his car.

He's been strugling to keep up with everyone else because BMW stopped developing the car to concentrate on next year's car and nearly everyone else had continued developing their car.

EVEN Heidfeld? Nick isn't some club racer, he's Kubica's equal in that team no doubt.

Yea, I think that's the cause.

I really think mid-way this season, BMW should have pushed like hell for WDC and WCC, since they had realistic chance for both.

But I think both BMW and Kubica will be there at the end of season contending for Championships.

It's all very well saying BMW should have pushed for the title, but it's very easy to say this with hindsight. Nobody could reasonably have guessed the number of mistakes Hamilton, Massa and Raikkonen were going to make. In my view, BMW have made the right call, and if things work out for them next season, all of this will be forgotten and people will be saying Dr. Theissen got it right.

That's true.

But both drivers, and the BMW car have been very reliable all season. A further developed car would have surely put them in place to win Title.

But again, they've been preparing for '09 anyway, and we knew this before this season.

I think they will keep on developing next year's car throughout the whole season because I think they are going to have an even stronger season but Renault will be back to winning ways.

Well, to be honest I don't think Heidfeld is as good as Kubica is (just compare their results), and it really gets on his nerves. He was supposed to be no 1 in the team, but he simply is not. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that Nick isn't good driver, he is just ... lacking something that Kubica has. At least IMHO.

BTW, if BMW would actually focus on Kubica's performances he probably would have become world's no3. Pity ...

BMW fixed Heidfeld's qualifying problems too well. And Kubica fell behind as a result.

You're taking into account only one year's results. Heidfeld had the measure of Kubica in 2006 and 2007 (to the point where he dominated him last season) whereas Kubica just out-performed a team-mate who had tyre issues. Next year should give a better picture. I don't see what Nick is lacking: he's fast, his racecraft is great, he's really good at overtaking (you just don't get to see it that often) and he's very good in the wet. I do wonder what could have happened if he'd switched from inters to full wets at Silverstone like Rubens did. :)

Well it won't matter so much now. Considering that car is all but scrapped, and the troubles won't carry over to the new car, thanks to how radically different they are next year.

But I think just about everyone had quali problems this year. Kimi, Kubica, Heidfeld, Kovy. Even Lewis and Massa had a few troubles. Vettel was no exception either, he had a few problems at the start of the year. So it's not exactly unusual or a major problem. But I think it might of been the team concentrating on bringing Heidfeld up to speed, that eventually meant Kubica lost out.
