Just as it says...

Ok i was a little trashed at the weekend. but I was told a really weird story by a friend and even though it sounds silly, i have a feeling that the story may be true...

A friend of mine (originally from suffolk but went to uni in lincoln) told me that some of her friends claimed that there was a huge war between Suffolk and Norfolk, probably about land, turnips or pinching wives. Aparrently Norfolk won the war. and because of this embarrasing defeat, everyone from suffolk has no recognision of this war ever happening, and the facts are lost in history.

My friend was just as baffled as I was. And so we made it our mission that night to find the truth, of the great Norfolk-Suffolk war. So.... does anyone know anything?

:cloggynmarki:
Cheers in advance,
Kyros.

Well I've asked a couple of people I know from Norfolk, and they both said similar things. But basically that they shouldn't really say . . . WTF???!! Maybe there is more to this . . . .

I only know about the war of the roses between Lancashire and Yorkshire, as I lived in Lancashire for 10 years, well was more Lancaster and York.

Wouldnt have a clue over that way

And I dont know much about Wiltshire as of yet

Nor did I know much about Northamptonshire's past

It's going to be something silly like a football derby isn't it?

The only thing I can think of is that there were suggestions Lowestoft should switch allegiance and become part of Norfolk, rather than Suffolk - I think Gorleston did just this in the 1970s. Doesn't really classify a war though?

That's the trouble with the borders of our counties in this country isn't it? One moment a town could be in one county and then in an entirely different one next. Middlesbrough and Cleveland used to part of North Yorkshire years and years ago until the 70's. Now they're in Teeside, but some still think it's North Yorkshire. And some people still think East Yorkshire is called Humberside.

Hey :( I'm no horse beater, and I don't personally know any!
Er, and can we please stop insinuating that Norfolk = inbred. I most certainly am not *counts number of fingers on each hand to check* - nope, still got eight fingers and two thumbs :D

Anyway, as for the Norfolk / Suffolk war... Er, I'm from Norfolk and I've never heard of it!
