Does anyone agree that making the tracks wider especially on the entry and exit to corners at several circuits such as Hungary would promote overtaking. And am I on my own in thinking that street circuits are becomming just boring processions?

Having variable racing lines helps too.

its not the track width but its the braking distances plus the dirty air what make the current F1 cars hard to overtake!

+ aerodynamics ... :)

I think grooved tyres are also an issue. Drivers seem to have much less confidence in pulling off moves on those than they used to on slicks. And a general lack of mechanical grip helps contribute to this.

Yeah, narrower tyres, grooved tyres, narrower cars and an increased focus on aerodynamic grip. A recipe for disaster. Mosley should never be forgiven for his 1998 regulation changes as far as I'm concerned.

For once I'm with Welshie on this, a wider track doesn't make any difference if there's only one racing line and I suspect it's probably more to do with the types of corners and camber than width. Another aspect is the rubber that's discarded off the racing line, will slicks cause any more or any less of that?

To my opinion, a huge factor in overtaking maneuvers are long straights. This is one of the reasons why overtaking in street circuits such as Monaco is a great ordeal, if not impossible.

I would echo that sentiment too, Tilke has made a lot of huge wide tracks with enough space on some corners to use as a car park for Tanks, but that doesn't make a difference.

There was always the problem of marbles forming just off the racing line. I would guess that the post-1998 cars seem to cope less well with the problem is because of their much reduced mechanic grip. Drivers, therefore, have much less confidence in attempting to pass somebody off the racing line because they've more chance of spinning.

Theres many a thing Mosley should not be forgiven for!!!, those regs are but one of them.
How about Big fat slicks, wider tracks including no silly rules on how or where you overtake and no more aero stuff. WHHHHOOOAAAAEEEY!!! :jump::)

We may be getting our slicks and less fiddly stuff back but I still want my wider cars back. :(
