The FIA are considering banning Ferrari's electronic pit system after yet another botched pit stop left a mechanic lying on the ground and put an F2008 into the path of another car.

This year's Championship has seen Ferrari replace the traditional lollipop man, who stands with a stick that reads "stop" or "go", with an electronic system linked to the refueling rig.

The system includes lights that go through a red, amber, green sequence hanging on a pod that is situated in front of the driver, telling them when they can go.

The system, though, has already done more harm than good, resulting in two mechanics lying flat on their backs on the ground and two unsafe releases that came within a whisker of causing pit lane accidents.

And as a result Ferrari team boss Stefano Domenicali has conceded that the Scuderia need to review the use of the lights with the FIA reportedly set to ban it on safety grounds if they doesn't find a solution.

As a source told The Times: "Either it works or it doesn't." And in Ferrari's case, it doesn't.

The latest botched electronic system incident may also cost Felipe Massa the World title after he was released too early and drove off with the fuel hose still attached to his car on Sunday night in Singapore, dropping him from first to second from last.

But despite the botched job, Massa has refused to blame the Ferrari mechanic who operates the electronic system.

"You made a mistake, I make mistakes. We are only human. Each one of us always tries to do our best and these things can happen," the Daily Express reports him as having said.

It's dangerous . . . get rid!

they should have a system where the cars are jacked up while the refueling rig is still attached, when the fueling is finished and the hose pulled out this drops the cars down and ready for release!
will make stops longer than they are now but if its the same for every team that will not matter!

Touring cars raise themselves using pneumatic pistons. I'm sure a similar technique could be applied to F1.

and good too see ya again Bud!

Hey Hamilton, are you reading this? That incident clearly cost him the race, most likely cost him the world championship and was without question his teams fault and Massa did not throw them under the bus. Are you learning anything here Hamilton? That is the attitude of a proper sportsman. That is what you need to learn. I have to admit I am shocked to see Massa acting with such sportsmanship. As shocked as I was to see Kimi give Hamilton room to pass him when he could have punted him instead (I hate to admit my own faults, but after that 'no balls' comment...I would have punted him). This year has seen some real growth on Massa's part, and while I am still not a Massa fan....I am beginning to see him in a different light.

When has lewis ever said anything against his team?

I thought it quite nice to see that Massa was one of the first people after the race to go and find the guy who made the mistake and console him. I can imagine how devastated he must have been having cost Ferrari what looked almost certain to be a win.

Yeah so he should, the team let him down and I wouldn't not saying anything, there system could of caused a accident in the pits, well it did, but they could of caused another

About bloody time, what's wrong with the good old fashioned lollipop? Searching for those extra hundreths of a second in a pit stop? Well the chaos it's brought is definately not worth any gains they might have made. Infact I don't think they gained anything from it at all.

My, my this is tough talk from the guy who thinks overtaking at a chicane is "dangerous". :hehe::hehe::hehe:

Massa is no betterr, no worse than Lewis at sportsmanship and he's had a hell of a lot more F1 experience. He pitched in with his comments about "Deserving" to win at Spa when he clearly didnt. And Lewis does not diss his teams he regularly thanks them. Now give it a rest with the Lewis bashing , its getting tiresome. He drove a good race and congratulated his commpetitors on their good race too. Get over your problems!!!

The light system is completely foolish and if Ferrari persist with it they are idiots (IMHO:-))
They have something like it in the DTM as well as the V8's in Oz and there are similar problems with them there. Fortunately with the tin-tops the crew are rarely hurt since they never have to stand in front of the wheels.
