F1 had just stir up a heat in the town but also a hit for lots of people around it! STB had claimed that they had brought in thousands and millions of audiences from oversea and is going to benefit everyone. However, the location of F1! Have they actually consider about how it is going to affect the people and thousands of people around it! Esplanade had to closed off 24 shows because of F1! The retailers in Suntec City, Marina Square and Millenia walk and even coffee shop in the small lane near all this area are highly affected! How bad is the business during the Major Road closure! Not just 3 days but 7 days! In addition, the light and building of the tracks and many, all this resources are just for 3 days! Isn''t that too much a waste and non environmental as well! Isn't the night race a big waste of electricity! I thought Singapore Government is emphasizing on electricity conservation! So what is all this! If the track are built for permanent usage, then it is not so bad. Just like Beijing Olympic, the bird nest is not just for the Olympic but with a purpose too!

I think I really question on the value of F1 in Singapore! With just a F1, what is the value! Unless Singapore is going to explore into building permanent track, getting people to come in to race, but if that is the case, they should have choose a better location that reduces the impact on people.

For me, I highly discourage this F1 to be held in the town! Waste of resources, non environmental and affecting too much people!

the lighting was powered by generators so was not on the local power grid but saying that its still not eco friendly as its burning petrol for power, but this is a motorsport event its kinda hard to be eco friendly.

and the benefit for Singapore for this event is exposure which leads to $$$$!
association with F1 is a good promotional tool for your tourism dollar!

i think the only problem would be the businesses right in the way. in the grand scheme of things, singapore isnt going to care about a couple of coffee shops that missed out on a weeks worth of money. they are going to care about how much revenue they brought in from the tourists. from all the hype brought in from the race, i would think singapore would have made a lot. i personally loved the race and would love to see it there for years on.

FWIW, I'd never thought about traveling to Singapore for a vacation (holiday). I dd'nt know much about it and embarrassingly, my perception of the country was that it was a bit "third world". After watching the ITV quali and race shows I think I'd like to travel there or at least investigate it further as a destination. My wife and I spent about $12,000.00 US on our trip to Australia last year, we like to travel to different parts of the world and we tend to like new, modern cities. Singapore may very well benefit in this very tiny way by having us as visitors in the future thanks to F1. I realize its just one persons view, but I can't believe others weren't as impressed as we were.

Diesel, actually. This could quite easily have been a high-percentage biofuel in which case it would not have been as bad as it could have been. I think one aspect that people always seem to miss out when complaining about the environmental impact of Formula 1 is the logistical side of it. Flying an entire team and all that equipment to places like Japan, Canada, Australia etc. is very costly and uses up a lot of fuel. They should add transport in as a new challenge - points for the most environmentally friendly methods! :P

There are millions of lights, cars, computers etc. in Singapore and around the world. A Formula One night-race is a drop in the ocean compared to all of those.
