I was just pondering something quite interesting. If the title fight goes down to the wire in Brazil between Massa and Hamilton, Massa will have the backing of his home crowd for the title fight. Now here's the thought, have we ever had a Championship previously go down to the wire or be decided in a country that is home to one of the title challengers?

The only races I can recall where one of the challengers involved had their home race CLOSE to the deciding race was Mario Andretti with the US Grand Prix a race or 2 after he clinched the title in 1978, Schumi in 2001 at Hungary 1 race after Hockenheim and the following year in France 2 races before Hockenheim, and then Mansell 2 races before he clinched it at Hungary in 1992.

Apart from that, I can't recall a Championship deciding race being held in one of the protagonists' home countries.

If it goes down to Brazil and it doesn't rain there, I could easily see it being Massa's title. He's blindingly quick around that track and nobody could match him there last year. Lewis really needs to get the job done in Fuji and Shanghai in order to remove this risk. I get the feeling Massa may get the advantage in Singapore due to his performances in Monaco and Valencia, but it really is a complete unknown.

If Massa will do good in Singapore and Brazil and Hamilton in Fuji and Shanghai than is going to be very very close

Two of my favorites are Hamilton and Massa. These guys are just amazing.

When it does come down to both of these drivers, I must say that as much as I admire both drivers, I have to say I see Hamilton taking the win. The one thing Hamilton has over Massa, that consistently bites Massa, is consistency. Massa is not that consistent in races. He's getting better and better, but overall, Hamilton is more consistent.

The one thing about Massa, is when he gets in front, it basically takes an act of GOD for him to give up his position. Much like the race where his engine failed. He had that race won by a mile! He was so far ahead, people just gave up trying to catch him. I couldn't believe how far ahead he was.

If Massa could put forth that much energy, every single race (which is virtually impossible), he would be the man to beat. But honestly, because of how aggressive, passionate, talented, and consistent, Lewis Hamilton is overall. I just don't see Massa winning it, coming down to the two. Massa would have to ensure he was in front, and kept it there. Because when Hamilton gets in front, ... it's all over. And that's what I predict happening.

Nice thought 7UpJordan. But if this happens, Massa will be in a tremendous amount of pressure. The big question here is, can he handle the pressure?

Agree with this one. But Felipe was under big pressure at the beginning of the season, and look where he stands now!
So, Im' convinced if it came that far he'll handle it just well ...

same pressure to clinch a title at the begging of the year?

after last year Lewis might have learned a thing or to while its all new to Massa.

Yeh but we didn't really see how quick Lewis could be last year because his mistake at the start and the 3 stopper and his car trouble.

it all depends on what happens in the next 3 races though.

I recall Hamilton was really quick last year in Brazil, after he got his car working again i seem to recall he was the fastest on the track when in clean air, and was making up a lot of places. It was an impossible task though, he was too far behind to make a difference. But then of course the Ferrari's at the front probably weren't racing each other. So i don't suppose we did see how fast Massa can be there.
