From F1 Live:

The ten Formula One teams have met today in Monza to execute the articles of association of the Formula One Teams Association (FOTA). Luca di Montezemolo has been appointed as the first Chairman of FOTA and Mr John Howett is the Vice-Chairman.

FOTA states that it is committed to the development of Formula One and will work together with FIA and the Commercial Rights Holder to enhance the spectacle of the sport whilst reducing cost and increasing revenue.

The teams here agreed the following primary objectives:

a) to promote the development of Formula One and enhance its worldwide image and reputation;
b) to represent, defend and promote the interests of its Members;
c) to allow its Members to debate, within the corporate bodies of FOTA, any issue regarding the Formula One industry and/or Formula One racing;
d) to co-operate with the FIA, in particular by submitting proposals for amendments to current technical and sporting regulations or for new regulations;
e) to co-operate with the Commercial Right Holders.

Three commissions have been established: Sporting Working Group, headed by Martin Whitmarsh; Technical Working Group, headed by Ross Brawn; Commercial Working Group, headed by Mr Flavio Briatore.

The Executive Committee and the three commissions will immediately commence the work to achieve the above objectives.

I did roll my eyes when I saw di Montezemolo was Chairman but to be fair to them having Whitmarsh as head of the sporting working group balances this out, and the other two appointments are very hard to argue with. Let's hope this is a step forward - this group has an awful lot of potential if it is allowed to act as it should.

It would be great if Paul Stoddart was still in the Formula One business. I'd love to see him being involved in this. :hehe:

No, if we all had our way he'd be far too busy running the FIA! :thumbup:

Paddies and Aussies would do a good job at the head of the FIA. We tell things like they are! :D

Clearly not so much anti-Ferrari feeling among the teams as certain people would have us believe.

so we have another group to do with F1 rules and regs, is this really a good thing?
After all there is already Formula one Constructers Association (and since all teams are meant to be construtors they are elligible to join) the FIA its self and lets not forget that the drivers have their own Association.
I cant see how this is going to helo the sport other than to give a nother forum for a lot of hot wind and not much action.
This 'sport' is going to become mired in associations and groups that really dont do the sport any good. Why dont the teams just re orginise FOCA and oust the chairman who i belive is Bernie - a man that hasnt been part of a constructor since the 80's

Well hopefully the teams association here will be different as its fronted by people who are actually operating in teams today. Not once upon a time. These people who have been appointed care about the sport more than anyone in the FIA can. And if the the FIA choose not to pay much attention to the FOTA then atleast there is sufficient communication between teams to fold the sport and reform a much better sport outside of the FIA. The FIA surely must be aware that this is possible, now more than ever, and simply must start to conform to the wishes of the teams, else their days controling F1 are numbered.

When I read that, I initially thought an another political war would erupt in Formula One, but, on second thoughts, the trenches have already been dug anyway. The teams want more money and Ecclestone wants to get as much of it as he can as well. The only thing different in last month is that Ecclestone and Mosley have agreed a truce to protect both their interests. I always thought that FOCA has been pretty much dead since the 1980s, so whether FOCA is revived or whether its the FOTA discussing the issues, it's more or less the same thing; the teams have shown they want less involvement from Ecclestone. I'm more hopeful that FOTA will achieve something than others. I believe that there is a consensus in Formula One that costs have to cut and more "green" measures should be implemented, that there needs to be more teams racing and that more overtaking, for instance, is needed. To do this, Ecclestone needs to give up some money and the teams have to agree a programme about what they're going to do. Ecclestone and the FIA need the teams and for the teams it would be extremely handy, but not imperative, to have Ecclestone and the FIA with them (well, the former anyway). Hopefully, each side will not play silly buggers and appreciate that each have something to offer the other.
