Here it is, the new Ford Focus RS. The legendary name of Cosworth does not grace the boot lid and there is no 4WD, but Ford say are confident they have come up with the goods . . . this time.

The new RS is set to go on sale in early 2009 and is threatening big things. With a promised 300bhp and 410Nm of torques being developed by the 2.5litre 5 cylinder turbo engine, it can muster 0-62mph in sub 6 seconds . . . impressive. But this is doubly impressive when you consider all that power has to go through the front wheels. So have ford dropped the ball by still refusing to give us what we all want, a 4WD rally machine! Apparently not. The Focus RS comes with a trick new differential and suspension system called "Revoknuckle" (catchy name hey!), which works to dramatically reduce torque steer caused by high performance FWD cars. I have to say, it must work, as it's now the fastest hatchback around "The Ring"; although Ford haven't released the official time a Ford spokesman said, and I quote . . . . "How fast? Definitely below 8min 30".

So what do you all think? It's certainly fast . . . and green . . . and I think I may be in love :cloud9:

I don't like the colour of that one, but the shape looks pretty good, although I still prefer the older Focus shape and the classic Escorts and Sierras. I'm still not sure that Ford have given its customers all they want. Their new system may cut down torque steer, but there are other handling advantages to having a proper four-wheel drive system. It will be interesting to see how much it costs. As I kind of hinted at before, if I had the money, I'd rather buy an old Escort or Sierra than the new focus. Yes, they may be a little slower, but I love them. I also have to admit to being a Golf GTI man.

I'm not too keen on all these hatchback cars we see these days, and this version of the focus looks like the car had been sent to the car crusher by accident but got away with just its back-end being flattened.

i wouldnt mind one....... but i wouldnt want one :hehe:

Pretty much this... they also know how to pick disgustingly garish colours down at Ford's Focus RS department. :vomit:

Slightly off topic, but i saw a bunch of chavs in an Escort yesterday... they had stuck the famous Cosworth wing on, but you could see the welding marks

Why oh why do they never give us North Americans the hot Foci? The best one we got was the SVT. That's not much more than a ZX3 with a hotter motor and some lipstick, and we don't even have anything that hot anymore. Plus, we never got anything that drove with more than two wheels.

You pose a question I have been asking myself for many many year's. If Ford had actually sold us the Cosworth Focus and Sierra I might have actually ended up owning a Ford.
