Bruno that is!

Has he got as far has he has in Motorsport if it was not for his name? is he ready for F1? Will he ever be able to step out of his uncles shadow?

I was just reading his profile on Wikipedia, he seems to be good but not setting the world alight

He has done a solid but by no means spectacular job in the junior formulae. If I were a team boss, I'd need to see him in GP2 for another year or see how does in another team before I would look at signing him.

If being brothers doesn't guarantee a similar skillset (schumachers) then I see no reason why that Senna should be considered anything special unless he demonstrates that skill on the track. His last name means nothing.

Thank god ITV are being pulled from F1.
They've already slandered the term Senna-esque on the Senna-wanna-be in the Silver Mc this season.

Begs the question though, are the skills for being an F1 driver in the genes. Quick reflexes, nerves of steel etc.
Or is it opportunity.
What percentage of us would make it to F1 given a kart at the age of 5 and backing from Ron Dennis through our early years.
With all the father/son combo's in F1, is it genes & ability or is it connections, funds & opportunity.

in some ways being a Senna would place more expectations on him and could be more of a Hindrence than anything.
His uncle is one of the greats of all time so i dont think he will ever be allowed to step out of his shadow

I think it's a bit of both. Few people are born with so little coordination, skill etc. that they could not do a solid job at most things when practising a lot. Also, think about how many people drop out of racing at each rung of the ladder, so there has to be some difference in skill between people. Bruno Senna's name and connexions have got him pretty far, but he has done a decent job, showing he has some ability. Whether he is just a decent Formula 3 and GP2 driver or up to Formula One standard I'm really not certain.

I would love to see him race in F1 but as his uncle was one of the best ever some people may judge him if he isn't as fast as his Ayrton.

What about Grosjean? He seems pretty legit. Is anyone talking about him?

Grosjean is another great prospect for the future. He is very fast and has done well with some mediocre cars. However, he makes even more gaffes than Hulkenberg. For instance, there are times he has been in good grid positions and stalled etc. Many of these young guys are very fast, but they have a whole lot to learn. I think it would be irresponsible for they or their managers to just rush into Formula One. Unless they are driving for a Formula One team which is at the back of the grid, another year in GP2 would be most profitable for them.

Ayrton rated Bruno from an early age.

When leaving Macca he said "If you think I'm good, wait until you see my nephew"

Yeah, I think Bruno is a great prospect, and expect him to take the vacant STR seat.

You say the Senna name is a hinderance, but I am sure that it has opened some doors for him as well. I actually met him at Pembrey when they renamed part of the circuit after his uncle. He seemed a nice enough bloke.

Just watch him, he's doing a really good job in GP2. He's second chasing down first in the title race, even despite the terrible luck he's had, he hit a wild dog in Turkey which forced retirement. You've also got to consider that he's not had that much experience yet, where as Pantano, the title leader, is infact the most experienced in the series. There's no doubt in my mind he'll be in F1 if not next season then in 2010.

I think he has at least some of the ability of his uncle, if not all, but how well he does will come down to passion and the desire to win. There are drivers with strong skills, and there's drivers with strong passion, and to have both at such a high level as Senna is certainly rare. But what has happened before can happen again.
