Chad? Where is Chad?? Chad sounds like the name of a skateboarder and grafitti artist who lives in some shady downtown backstreet alley. Maybe they're looking to hold the race down his backstreet alleys covered in his graffiti?

Chad is one of the world's poorest countries. Although it's got some oil reserves, the cash goes to the country's corrupt leaders, who are frequently having to avoid coups d’état. There is no way there could ever be a Grand Prix in Chad.

Sounds like Bernie's cup of tea.

We're talking about people in the Robert Mugabe mould. Turkey and China may have a few issues still to resolve, but negotiating a Grand Prix in Chad really would be supping with the devil.

Let's say it did go ahead, there would be no crowd because the people can barely afford to feed themselves and anybody traveling to region (teams, drivers, press, fans) would have to wear bullet and stab-proof vests, as well as screw down all their possessions. South Africa suddenly looks safe!

The country in Africa with the highest total GDP is South Africa. There's a bit gap down to the next richest (total, not per capita), Nigeria. Primarily due to oil.

After Nigeria, come Algeria, and Egypt, but Angola is up there too. So is Libya.

Per capita some small countries such as Equatorial Guinea head the list, but I can't see them getting a race, as they're just too small.

With the amount of investment required for modern tracks, they couldn't really have an African GP and move it around.

If there was a will to have an African GP again, which I can understand the motivation for, then surely it would be South Africa.

South Africa is the only place in Africa really capable of holding a serious, global sporting event. In saying that, however, some people are raising doubts about the World Cup being held there in two years time and it does have pretty bad crime rates.
