Australia will continue to host a Grand Prix at Melbourne's Albert Park through 2015, Victorian premier John Brumby confirmed at a news conference on Friday.

He said a new seven-year deal with F1 Chief Executive Bernie Ecclestone, guaranteeing a 5pm local start time, has been signed.

Ecclestone had threatened to move the race to a different country over his demands for an artificially-lit night event, but now says he is 'satisfied' with the twilight compromise.

"I'm satisfied that the decision to move to a later start time is a win for television audiences in Europe and Asia, a win for Melbourne and a win for Formula One as a whole," he said.

It's good that the issue is finally sorted. The new starting time is a good compromise. Ecclestone gets his wish, the Australian Grand Prix remains on the calendar, and those attending the Grand Prix are not unduly inconvenienced.

Yeah i agree. its definitely good news. I like the track and the races are ussualy quite interesting.
But somehow I didnt feel the Brit and Aussie GPs were going to go... it was more a matter of sorting their negotiations so  for them

It's great news that we keep the GP for another 5 years, even though it means a lot of you guys will still have to get out of bed early.
I'm not too sure about the 5pm start though. If the race goes to 2 hours, the shadows will be VERY long by the end.
