This would be interesting if it happens. Just hope Marco doesnt have a disaster like his dad did.

Rubens Barrichello has received an offer to see out his long motor racing career in America, according to reports.

The German newspaper Bild claims the 35-year-old, who next month will set a new benchmark as the longest serving grand prix driver in history, has been asked to run with the Andretti Green IndyCar team in 2009.

Barrichello's current contract with the F1 team Honda, owned by the Japanese marque that also equips Andretti Green with engines, runs out at the end of 2008.

Bild raises the possibility of a seat 'swap'; Barrichello to IRL in exchange for Andretti Green's Marco Andretti, the 21-year-old American son of former McLaren driver Michael Andretti, whose own father Mario won the world championship in 1978.

Reportedly, the American broadcaster Speed TV cited Barrichello as confirming the offer.

Marco Andretti has already collected about 900 kilometres of testing in a Honda F1 car.

IT would be good for Rubens as he will race his very good friend in Tony Kanaan and finish his racing career closer to home. Im sure he will consider

as for Marco this is great news as he wants to be in F1 his grand daddy wants him to be in F1 and great for American exposure after losing Scott Speed! with the regs shakeup next year he just might be in a winning car, but this point also will be on Rubens mind

Rubens is a Formula 1 driver and he still loves the sport. He still dreams of winning the world championship, though he knows his career is coming to an end, and he has already said that this contract with Honda will be his last one. I'd like to see him win his home race before he retires and Honda should do their best to provide him with that opportunity, seeing as Ferrari did not.

Hope Rubens stays around for a few years more, hopefully to move Honda on from it's foolish "One Earth" stance and back to a race team. Unleash the Beast Honda, stop farting around and reclaim the podium.

rubens is past his sell by date. I'm sure he is still a good driver but there are many others who are better than him. I think he is sticking around just to get the most grand prix in history under his belt. Once he gets that he should say goodbye

He should leave when he no longer enjoys driving in Formula 1. If someone enjoys something, who should determine when they stop? Rubens is a great driver and there are people on the grid who, in terms of talent, should probably leave before he does.

I agree. Barrichello was a good driver, could probably have won at least one title if Ferrari let him, but he's now past it. I think he deserves the all-time record for the most Grands Prix, but after that, should probably leave.

Well said.

Rubens is still better in an F1 car than Andretti would be at least for 2 or 3 years. Before that let him win an IndyCar championship and/or do GP2 first. He could do F1 eventually but at the moment he's been outperformed by his teammates and he crashed it at Motegi I believe.

i'm afraid if he moved into F1 this year/next year Jenson would destroy him.

I agree, its the old story of youth v experience. No-one can have both in great quantity as LH has also discovered.
Rubens is a good reliable driver that gets a lot from his car without bending the bodywork, he is also a true Gentleman. So, I hope that he ends up doing what HE wants to do. He would do well in 'Indy' if that is what he chooses to do.

He's always had a great temperament and never publicly complained about all the team orders at Ferrari, or even when it was only HIS car that ever broke down (usually at Interlagos). He drove brilliantly in Australia and deserved the points that he eventually didn't get.

Unfortunately for Rubinho even good drivers' heads are on the block when they get beaten by their teammates (look at Massa and Fisichella last year). Jenson is probably too good for Rubens at this point in their respective careers. i still think Honda have one of the strongest driver pairings on the grid this season.

And there's always the worry of Andretti doing exactly what his father did back in 1993.

I don't think Rubens should stop yet, he's always a cheerful character around the pitlane. He should stop when he wants to, not when somebody's knocking at the door. If anything Coulthard is probably going to retire before Rubens.
