I may be a little naive, but other manufactures and nations hosting F1 have come out saying they apparently don't want to have anything to do with him. It can be argued that we may not see Max doing anything Presidential anywhere indefinitely. If the FIA chooses to defend him then these nations may not give up on F1, but I imagine they will not want to deal with the FIA. So in the event he is asked to step down, who would you like to see, that would be a defender of the proper things that the FIA has done, and would have an adequate chance of cleaning up the corruption and favoritism that some people complain about.

to clean up the FIA youd need to start from scratch and do a shakeup of the whole system and how its run not just changing presidency.

I'd actually bring fresh blood from somewhere else. If it has to be person related to F1, then someone who's out of the game for longer time and has clear perspective; Stewart, Lauda, Prost maybe. Mansell..?

But it remains that Max is just a top of a stinky iceberg, FIA need complete clean-up. Not going to happen.

I don't think Todt or RD could ever be elected. Both are still involved with their teams and that would be conflict of interest (and then some).

I actually like the idea of Nikki Lauda. He was top class driver, he has management skills, and he never lost his touch with F1 - but he is out of F1 long enough to be "purified" from daily politics (hopefully).

It doesn't even have to be someone from F1 - they could be from any other motorsport that is governed by the FIA, you know...

If the FIA have proper elections and accountability procedures, then I think Ron Dennis could be a good appointment. I would never like to see Jean Todt as FIA President, regardless of how fool proof the FIA was. Martin Brundle, Eddie Jordan, Paul Stoddart and Alain Prost would, however, be the best, not necessarily because they are better candidates than Ron Dennis (in fact no worse), but because they have no links to teams (or major ones when they were in the business), are experienced, have ability, and want the best for the sport. As I've said several times before, even if Mosley's successor is installed (or crowned by Mosley) (whenever those may be) is actually any good, the potential is always going to be there for corruption, rule bending, creating and ignoring, and back-room deals. The FIA needs a revamped, codified constitution, and the rules of Formula One needed tightened up as well. It's amazing to think that a multi-billion dollar business can be run in such an amateur fashion.

I think we need someone not tied to either of the major factions, which does totally rule out Todt or Dennis. If either of them were ever head of the FIA one half or the other of the F1 community would be outraged so it's not the kind of appointment that it would be wise to make on the back of an already messy controversy.

I would say my ideal choice would be Jackie Stewart. He is a three-time world champion, but beyond that he has worked extensively within the motor industry with Ford, which covers the non-sporting aspects of the FIA, and he's also done lots of work within charities and with senior politicians so I really don't think there's a better qualified candidate.

And, deliciously, it would really get up Max's nose if he got it!
