GP2 Champion Timo Glock wants to cancel his contract with BMW as he has been offered a race seat with a "big F1 team".


The German has declared his intention to leave the Hinwil-based constructor, with Toyota apparently keen on installing him as Ralf Schumacher's replacement.


"One should realise they all want to get what's best for themselves," he told Bild.


"I was offered the opportunity to race for an other big team in Formula 1 and that is something BMW can not offer me so I hope they can change the current situation."


Media reports on Friday claimed that Toyota have contacted the Contract Recognition Board as they look to sign the 25-year-old driver.


Glock added: "I am really grateful to BMW. The team has helped me a lot and I have always felt good with the team, but now it's time to move on. I hope we can come to an agreement soon."

Could this be a mistake?

There's no doubt that Glock is a good driver; he won GP2. But there's also no doubt that Toyota are stuck in reverse gear at the moment.

Could Glock be the man to inject new life into Toyota, or should he wait for a better offer?

I don't think Toyota are going backwards, it's just that they're inconsistent in producing cars that will be at the sharp end...

Nah, I have it from an insider source - what they'll do is the following: They'll swap the front wing with the rear wing and drop in a brand new gearbox with 7 reverse gears and one forward gear. See how that's gonna work, can't be worse than 2007, right?
I also hear that Honda are contemplating a similar approach with their new challenger and their new livery will be Roswell-themed

To be honest.
Toyota weren't slow this year. Yes they were crap.

But Truli got into the top 10 numerous times. it was off the line where the Toyota yet again struggled.
Check, Truli lost most of his points posistions of the line, and this is a clear probelm Toyota have failed to divert there wads of cash towards.

While Ralf was crap because the tyres completly contradict his driving style.

Toyota can be fast, they just seem to be blind stupid

Toyota are struggling because they don't have the focus required to compete in F1. Every top-level team have a figurehead who controls things, and I don't think it's a coincidence that BAR/Honda went downhill when Richards left. Toyota don't have this clear command structure, and also are less able to improve their staff because they don't have the glamour of Ferrari or the prestige of BMW and are outside of F1's silicon valley in South-east England.

That if anything plays well for Glock - if he does well, he'll get noticed, but if he's only so-so, no-one will be surprised given his equipment and experience. He can't turn down an F1 drive, because there's always the risk he'll end up like so many who did well in F3000/GP2 but never found an opening in F1.
