So is anyone watching this? I'm so fed up with the hype I'll be glad to see the end of it.

It's not the game I hate, it's the hype. I don't care that it's been 40 years since we last lifted the cup, and when people say that 'football brings the world together' I can only think of the violence both on and off the pitch. It is a great game, but it is just that. I won't be spending hours inside watching 22 grown men using their feet to kick a ball into the back of a net, I instead will be outside in the local park, drinking beer, having a BBQ and kicking a ball about for a bit of a laugh.

Agreed. Mind you, I shouldn't complain - I did get free food and drink because of it today!

It does mean the office is unusually peaceful, although that's not so great for company profitability ;)

I read this in the paper this morning and it made me laugh.....

Two English football fans in Cologne lost their car after mistakenly thinking they had parked it on a road called 'One Way Street'.

The pair wrote down 'Einbahn Strasse' - which means one-way street in German - so they didn't forget where they'd left the hire car.

But when they came to find it again they found that every second street in the inner city was called 'Einbahn Strasse'.

It was only when they found a policeman that they were told the sign was to inform drivers that they were on a one-way street.

They finally managed to find their vehicle hours later with the help of the German police.

It could only happen to a Brit ;)

Speaking of World Cup: I'm positively surprised and impressed by the German side. They play a very entertaining, intelligent and energetic game these days unlike the rather robotic style of the past. With the 12th man on the field (a very enthusiastic home crowd), they have to be considered a contender now. Argentina and Spain look good, Brazil of course - still too early to predict the winner, though I wouldn't be surprised if we end up with a final between Germany and Brazil or Argentina and Brazil.

I'd like to see Italy do well (although TBH I'm trying to ignore the World Cup :) ), but I don't think they will win it this year. Germany look in great form and I reckon it will be a Brazil - Germany final.

Well, England are very lucky that Rooney's foot got better (now there's a conspiracy theory....!) with Owen going out last night.

On a random note, I think it's awful that half our national team can't be bothered to sing our National Anthem.

From ananova....

A safari park is warning visitors to remove England flags from their cars after a group of baboons began stealing them. The animals have built up a huge collection of flags in the monkey enclosure at Knowsley safari park in Merseyside.

Keepers at the park say the 120-strong troop of baboons have been known to help themselves to windscreen wipers but have now turned their attentions to the World Cup flags.

Safari Park general manager David Ross told the Liverpool Echo: "Many people are wisely removing the flags before they set off on the safari drive.

"But if they forget, the baboons usually take them and they've now built up quite a collection."

Good one! Right up my alley as a primatologist. Looks like an Olive baboon (Papio hamadryas anubis) to me. The flag looks English, but is probably made in China. :D
