Do you think that the fuel burn period in Q3 is a waste of time/money and fuel - not to mention car wear & tear.?
In these days of global warming & carbon footprints etc it seems to be pointless exercise.
Got any solutions?
1. Could be that the team must state race fuel load before Q3. Then go out on a low fuel load for qualy and then have to fuel to the stated level. This might be difficult to police & keep team data secure.
2. Teams to state (pre Q3) which lap they will make first pit stop. Then, in the race, they can come in before but not after. Easier to maintain team security.

I think that the drivers should all have a light car for qualy so we can see who is the fastest. There has to be a better way than fuel burn, that will allow team strategy to be uncompromised.

What do you reckon?

Have Stewards add weights to the car depending on what strategy has been planned.

They need to rethink the whole fuel burn thing as its the major flaw in the last part of qualifying.

Point 1 is easy to secure. Weigh the car empty, and then add the weight of the fuel to it.

I think the point of the fuel burning laps is so there's cars on the track all through the final qualifying session trying to lose weight instead of what used to happen with most cars going out and doing 1 or 2 flying laps at the end of qualifying which is what they could do if you just add weights to the cars. I'd prefer to see low fuel in Q3 with the average of the best 3 laps deciding the position and let them decide fuel strategy before the race.

I'm more in favour of the idea of nominating a fuel load, then allowing each car to qualify on as low a fuel load as possible. At the end of the day, people pay money to watch the qualifying session, so they have a right to see the fastest drivers competing against each other, so we can all see who the fastest driver really is.

Last season, despite some qualifying sessions being exciting, you never knew how much to trust them, because all of the cars were on different fuel strategies. This, for me, sours it.

We want to see who really did well in qualifying in the actual qualifying session, not at the first pit stop in the race.

The idea of the fuel burn is to get all the cars out on the track and give people a good ole look at them.

But the rule is changed for 2008 - there will be no fuel burn.

1 hour 12 laps no fuel restriction simple and fastest man gets pole

I heard the last session (q3) was going to be a 10 minute session - fastest man wins - how you get there is the same as this year with q1 and 2. Correct me if I am wrong.

That would be a good approach and worth watching all of the Q3.

I'm with Bud the fastest man gets pole not the lightest fuel load, Q3 as Q1 and Q2 no messing with fuel.

Teams can put whatever fuel they want in after Q3

I stii think they have to declare fuel, but the fuel they declare does not have to be in the tank during the q3 session.
