Hello new the board and F1. I went to my first race at Indy and fell in love with the sport. Just wonder what the white stripes on the Ferrari cars mean? These stripes are on the drivers coats and cars. Thanks for your help!!

If they are what you think I'm talking about, they would be the replacement stickers for the Marlboro cigarette company logo. In certain countries the advertising of cigarettes is banned so Ferrari have to remove the Marlboro logo and just use the stripes to replace it.

Yes those are the lines I am talking about. Does the pattern mean anything? (I know that where the marlboro logo goes) Why use stripes? It just been bugging me and my other buddies that watch the sport. Go Browns.

In fact in most countries Marlboro is not allowed to show their name on the Ferraris. Exceptions are Bahrain and Japan me thinks.

in the USA the rules say that a cigarette sponsor can just be shown one time, so the IRL Penske team is sponsored by Marlboro that can't be shown on the Ferrari too.

Marlboro is being very smart here, though. IN short order that series of white lines will be synonymous with the brand, and it will be as effective an advertisement as the actual word. So we should take tobacco banning a step further and redefine what represents a company name.

At the beginning of the season my buddies and I joked that it was the UPC for one of their brands. If you drive your Ferrari past the checkout and the cashier reads tha barcode with her little barcode reader, the register will read "Viginia Slims king size 20 pack extra light"

I just realized that Marlboro and Benson&Hedges(former Jordan title sponsor) are both Phillip Morris brands. huh wadya know.
