Imagine the following scenario:
The FIA finds both McLaren and Ferrari in breach of the sporting code (there might be some dark secrets surfacing from Ferrari's conduct as well) and thus, both teams and all 4 drivers get stripped of all or most of their points. Who would leave this outcome as the laughing third? You guessed it: BMW and NH - World Champions 2007! One of the most decent, professional and quietly hard working teams - I wouldn't mind... :P

At the same time, you'd rather see BMW develop over this season and next and challenge properly.

If either or both of McLaren and Ferrari are chucked out, then to me it's typical Formula 1. As soon as they do something right, they all find a way to shoot themselves in the foot, and it all begins to look a bit stupid and unprofessional.

I don't think that BMW would like to win the title that way but take it when it comes. :D

The real losers of course will be the drivers and mechanics and techies, etc who have gone blamelessly through the season with both teams. :( Those guys have worked hard and deserve the points; only to get them stripped off by the actions of one or two silly boys.

Can anyone think of any other sports that do this sort of thing - apart from, allegedly, Italian football? (Apologies if this question should go on the "Other than Racing" (I can't remember what it's called!) thread. Please feel free to move it or ask me to do so.)

Aw BMW, no subpeondas, no lawsuits, no police investigation, no cheating, no cry babies, no dates with the World Council. Unfortunately, next year they will be a force but not this year.

The Carlos Tevez saga that lasted the entire summer over West Ham cheating their way to survival using illegal players and then blatantly lying about it, being caught in posession a third party agreement (which should instantly get them points deducted, now this is very different than McLaren being caught in posession of the Ferrari dossier) and getting a lame fine instead of a points deduction because it was "so late in the season" and my club Sheffield United got relegated as a result of West Ham cheating. I'm not too bothered now though, I didn't really enjoy being in the Premiership anyway.

If the FIA were dealing with the Tevez saga, they wouldn't have given West Ham mercy, they'd have probably banned them from competitive football for a season unlike the lame pathetic officials in charge of the Premier League who are afraid to punish "big boys".

the real losers will also be the fans of f1. seeing a championship with no maclaren or ferrari would be a commercial disaster as i doubt i would buy anything with NH involved

Heidfeld could become the first Champion with facial hair since Nigel Mansell. :P

Then Wurz will finally convince Heidfeld to have a shave, but our Nige will tell Nick to leave a Mansell style tache. :P

It would be funny, but no.

Really think about it for a second, if McLaren get disqualified, then say kimi wins, can you honestly say he deserved to win, if McLaren miss out, it Ruins the whole championship, cause who ever wins, its a very very hollow victory.
Could you live with that trophy saying to yourself everyday, i didn't desevre that

The thing is, in the past few years there have been hollow victories, if not in championships, then certainly I can think of individual races. Some drivers/teams dont seem bothered how hollow the victories are. Though I do not put Kimmi in that category.

Now, how hollow would it be to win in a McLaren knowing full well that your team got caught cheating and benefitting from spy data and got docked all the points for the constructors championship, but they left you in the title chase for the F1 business aspect of it?

I think the McLaren drivers would love to stuff it to them if they get taken out by such stupid inconsistant rulings- show them all who the real champion is...the fastest driver on the track.

Or how much sweeter would it be knowing the authorities were doing their utmost to disrupt the team over the course of the year. And, despite such turmoil, how the entire team and Brixworth and Woking stuck at it and produced an excellent championship-winning car. Furthermore, given the amount of victories Ferrari have conned over the past lot of years at McLaren and other team's expense, seeing them get nothing once again this year would please me no end.
