F1 is set to introduce an interactive Driver of the Day award to increase engagement with fans during a grand prix.

Yesterday the F1 Strategy Group and F1 Commission met in Geneva to discuss ways to spice up the spectacle this season and beyond. On Wednesday the FIA revealed the decisions which had been made, including the agreement to give fans the opportunity to vote for the best driver of each race.

Race viewers will be able to vote online throughout a grand prix, with the winner announced as part of the broadcast. That driver will then receive his award after the race has concluded.

The announcement says the award will be "implemented by the Commercial Rights Holder in conjunction with Formula One broadcasters". It is the first time F1 has created an official award which is decided solely by the fans of the sport.

He added: "I just think these ideas they are coming up with are no good," ...
