The body of 1950s motor-racing legend, Juan Manuel Fangio, has been exhumed on the orders of a judge in Argentina.

He ordered samples from Fangio's body be taken to try to resolve paternity cases brought by two men in their seventies claiming to be his sons.

Fangio won the F1 world championship five times in the 1950s.

He never married and did not declare any children, but his biographers say that he had a two-decade relationship with a woman.

Her son, Oscar Espinosa, had a brief spell in Formula 3 and was known by colleagues as "Cancho" Fangio.

Another man, Ruben Vazquez, brought a separate paternity claim. Vazquez says his mother, who died in 2012, signed papers in front of a notary claiming Fangio was the father of her son.

Mr Vazquez said he had no financial interests: "I just want to be recognised for the Fangio surname."

Juan Manuel Fangio, who died in 1995 aged 84, left his estate to a foundation and a museum which bears his name.

I personally think that having Fangio's body exhumed for a paternity case is somewhat frivolous, the legend has been buried for 20 years for heavens sake, Vazquez claims to have no financial interest, which I don't believe for a moment, I bet he can benefit financially from using the legendary surname.

Agreed!! It is frivolous, as well as "disrespectful"!!

Any idea on when we will know the results?

Doesn't expressing interest in the results play into this "[...]frivolous, as well as "disrespectful"!!" assessment?

I don't agree. Unless you are in the situation whereby you don't know for sure who your father is, I think it's very difficult to judge. People can agonise for a lifetime over an issue like that. And if it turns out that Fangio is their father, then shouldn't they be entitled to compensation from his estate IF he didn't look after them at the time as a father should? I'm quite sure the exhumation will be carried out with utmost respect and care, and a judge would not have ordered it without at least some credible evidence that shows paternity is a real possibility.

Or should they be forced for the rest of their own lives to live in uncertainty?

I don't know, I think the comments thus far are quite unfair.
