To design a fantasy car.

Just to show their prowess at making things that look good but are not actually real, Ferrari has been exciting its fans an distracting them from the reality we saw on track in 2014 and pretty much the whole of this century.

Explaining the thinking behind the design, Ferrari said in a statement on their website: "Would it be possible to come up with an F1 car which not only is technologically advanced, but also captivating to the eye and aggressive-looking? And could this be made without having to overturn the current technical rules?

"At Ferrari, we believe so. Let us introduce you to the ‘concept design’ that was conceived by our design studio (Centro Stile Ferrari) together with the Scuderia’s aero department. Minimal changes give the car a look that is way different from what have been familiar with so far. Our challenge was to create something that was – to put it short – better looking."

Funny thing is there is NO MENTION of the engine that would run this make believe winning car. Would it be a V8 or a V12 even? Surely if they are arguing for a return to older historical engines then they must have a choice for this fantasy car?
This car looks more like an LMP or sportscar and would obviously be much heavier, requiring a bigger engine, more fuel etc etc - things Ferrari are not as bad at as the modern stuff

Perhaps they should concentrate more on making real cars go well with hybrid technology. We saw how lost McLaren were whilst they spnt time making those brilliant cartoons

Roffllll my thought exactly when I read it earlier today.....when I saw that car I was like hasn't that been created, its called Le Mans lol

Way more aero material and weight as you say, and they are like "not necessarily lose more fuel than today" hahahahahahhaa

I think redbull beat them to it with neweys 2010 concept of what a formula free racecar might be like.

Edit, just noticed that the ferrari is (supposedly) designed not to be completely outside the current formula, there would have to be quite a few changes made to allow it though.

Thats a seriously scary looking racing machine, and the car looks mean as well :hehe:

Yes, with the Ferrari, there would have to be a near complete overhaul of the existing regs to field that car in 2017. The engines would definitely need more fuel to match current speeds, then it wouldnt be about fuel eficiency anymore, which would make the RES redundant. And therefore a return to the old v10 would probably be the cheapest and quickest way. Oh yes, to accomodate those sexy lo profile 19s, the whole suspension an chassis would have to be changed.

Maybe Ferrari are on to a clever idea here, lets just start afresh with a brand new formula, unlimited fuel, no ERS, loud exhausts, and maybe bring back MS and Brawn as well :hehe:

You should try driving the thing, it (and other versions) have been included in the gran turismo games and if anything was ever built to have the level of performance it has in the game then it would be seriously scary.

Minimal changes? I doubt any of the bodywork and aero conforms, and as already stated, suspension, engine, chassis would all have to be altered.

Better looking? I suppose it's personal opinion, looks ok in the side view but the front looks daft.
