The FIA have been concerned about young Max Verstappens lack of a Superlicence, so they've changed the qualifying criteria so that he gets one. Well that's good, he seems a nice lad and clearly knows his way around a race car. ........
but on this new system Kvyat would not have been granted a licence, and he'd be in good company, because neither would Ricciardo, Vettel, Raikkonen, Button, Hakinnen, both Villeneuves, Clark, Fangio, Senna and Scumacher.

How do they do it eh??

Theyve come up with a points system where so many points ( 40 I think) must be acrued in categories prior to F1....but not all categories, just some of them.
Here's will the Journos article on it

If they are trying to filter only those who have won or at least competed in a path of junior series (like Lewis) then that could be good, if they are trying to halt the rise of the pay driver then it could be another idiocy for the books. Having said that if backers had to choose a proven young driver say like Jolyon over an unproven relative, would we not see thiose sponsporship bucks move over to more 'receptive' sponsorship avenues - is Formula E a superlicence series? I havent read the link but will do

I have read it now, the FIA are a joke. why would they not include their own 'candidate for more credibility' FE.

And a new F2 series that hasnt even started yet :yikes:

I know. It's crazy. They'll probably overturn it in due course. Or change it for an even worse one. Probably mid season . There'll be 'a loophole' , or 'lack of clarity' or its 'open to interpretation'

I think as already said it will bring in pay drivers with credibility which is good. I think it will also stop drivers getting to F1 before they are ready.

And we might lose potential like Ricciardo, Senna, Schumacher and Hakkinen.

That's clearly a Bernie addendum IMO. He's keeping that F2 thing in case they need to bring in more cars and run F1 and F2 combined.

Which F1 drivers would not have made it using new FIA superlicence system?
...By our reckoning nine of the drivers confirmed for the 2015 grid didn’t meet the criteria at the time they made (or are going to make) their F1 race debuts.

This figure includes four world champions and accounts for the drivers who produced eight of the last ten world championship titles...

...Having trawled the archives here are the drivers who we believe didn’t or don’t have the right combination of age profile, accumulated car race experience and points accrued from qualifying championships ahead of their first race .

Fernando Alonso...
Jenson Button...
Marcus Ericsson...
Felipe Massa...
Kimi Raikkonen...
Daniel Ricciardo...
Carlos Sainz Junior...
Max Verstappen...
Sebastian Vettel...

But hey we'd have still had Pastor Maldonado :thumbup::hehe:

It's yet another ill thought out response by the FIA to a problem that presented itself.

It's amazing that anyone manages to score with the FIA's every moving goalposts. Imagine if in football, the FA changed to offside rule because Man Utd had too many goals disallowed for offside. F1 is the only sport where the rules and regulations change on a seasonal basis.

It's a sorry state and it cheapens F1 , which is unfair on all the teams and drivers who put so much in.

I think we are looking at this with an eye on the past. Saying driver x,y,z would not of been allowed in F1 just means that they would not of been in F1 the year they arrived, however most of them would of got enough points in the following few season.

I think it is a good idea as with enough point most F1 drivers will be of a decent standard. So looking at to STR drivers for example, some of them have said in the past that in hind sight that they where not ready for F1.

Look at RoGro on his 1st season in F1. He is lucky because he got a second bite of the apple. where as people like Buemi and Algersqauri have not been so lucky.
