It depends if the great Putin actually likes motorsports.
Breaking News:Lewis Hamilton has officially overtaken The Fonz in race wins. With 88 races less. Lol(Without a specially built blown diffuser, illegal front wing, preferential treatment)

The plane was carrying 295 people... this could definitely call an end to the Sochi GP

Re: Sochi GP
What a slimy, slimy little man.
ESPNF1 Bernie Ecclestone has no concerns about the Russian Grand Prix going ahead in October despite the recent MH17 disaster.
Ukraine has accused pro-Russian separatists of shooting down the Malaysian Airlines plane on July 17, killing all 298 people on board. The links between the rebel group and Vladimir Putin's government have come under heavy scrutiny and condemnation since the tragedy, with UK prime minister David Cameron among the international leaders calling for sanctions against Russia.
F1 controversially went to Bahrain in 2012 amidst concerns about the nation's human rights record, with Ecclestone always insisting that motor sport should not be affected by politics. In light of the recent MH17 disaster Ecclestone has reiterated that belief.
"I don't see any problems with that," Ecclestone told F1 journalist Adam Cooper's blog when asked about concerns about sponsors - notably Mercedes' Malaysian backers Petronas. "Were they [Russia] in the World Cup or not? You would have thought people would have tried to stop it, wouldn't you? Like I've said, we don't get involved in politics. We have a contract with them, which we know they will respect. And we will do the same."
Sochi will be particularly sensitive due to the close associations the city and Winter Olympic venue has with Putin.
When asked if Putin's close involvement with the Sochi site would draw unwanted attention to F1, Ecclestone said: "Not as far as I'm concerned, personally. We shouldn't speculate as to what could happen. We will honour our contract. Mr Putin personally has been very supportive and very helpful, and we will do the same."

Is there a similar thread about cancelling the American and British races?

We'll take smart comments please, leave the propaganda you're fed behind the iron curtain. if you're going to shoot down an airplane, at least have the balls to say yeah we did it, so what.
Official State Government Media:
Did you know Malaysia Air Flight 17 was full of corpses when it took off from Amsterdam? Did you know that, for some darkly inexplicable reason, on July 17, MH17 moved off the standard flight path that it had taken every time before, and moved north, toward rebel-held areas outside Donetsk? Or that the dispatchers summoned the plane lower just before the crash? Or that the plane had been recently reinsured? Or that the Ukrainian army has air defense systems in the area? Or that it was the result of the Ukrainian military mistaking MH 17 for Putin's presidential plane, which looks strangely similar?
I know there's few Russian people that actually buy that crap, but in a "us against them" steady diet that's been steadily fed to them for generations it wouldn't be surprising, hey those explanations aren't THAT IMPLAUSIBLE.

Re: Sochi GP
Perhaps you might make that both sides, to be fair, and keep the propaganda you're fed behind the Plastic Curtain? Your argument against Russia is that, even though they didn't do it, they should act like good Americans and be the drunken policeman of the world? That makes no sense. And is an incredibly insensitive position.
I'm not sure how your quote from an American paper proves that Russia shot down the airliner? Couldn't we similarly take a quote from Fox News advocating nuking Iran and Russia and determine that it was the Americans who shot down the airliner? (Your quote is from the New Republic, not an official Russian government statement, by the way.)
Just what is the evidence? And why is it impossible to question anything? It is a legitimate concern that a government that has killed thousands of civilians in the last few months and has advocated nuking Russia has potentially forced the airliner over a war zone. That is a necessary question to consider given that there are many reports of fighter jets escorting that plane.
Again, all the evidence comes from the US who went to war and killed over two million people with false evidence of chemical weapons. Whatever you might think of Russia, Britain and America do not have a very clear record of honesty; especially in the last ten years.
Don't make this one sided that you can use propaganda, but I can't. And perhaps you should explain what my propaganda is. It is a fact that Britain and America lied about chemical weapons and went to war, and it is a fact that they are the ones supplying weapons to the Israelis currently slaughtering a hundred civilians a day ON PURPOSE while people cheer them on.

Re: Sochi GP
And to be clear, did you read the original articles linked by the New Republic? What is said here is incredibly misleading:
"Did you know Malaysia Air Flight 17 was full of corpses when it took off from Amsterdam?"
This suggests this is official position, but if you read the original article from Vesti it is an article that starts off discussing 'much speculation, conspiracy theories, and outright fakes' on the internet. That is propaganda to take an article discussing conspiracy theories and attribute that to the official government position. One could just turn it around and find a Western article on conspiracy theories and say that is official American position.
What do such disingenuous tactics say about this media you believe?

Sounds like you have no case. Again, please link the evidence that proves Russia shot down the airliner. You don't have that do you? Thirty years ago when airliners were shot down they had tonnes of evidence on positions of weapons, etc. And today they have none? That is a problematic discrepancy...

Yes, that is a direct quote from the Russian born Ukrainian rebel General. You'd think he'd know what he was talking about... you're saying you don't believe him?
