I posted this in the Ross thread, however assuming Ross is never coming back to F1 it makes sense to create a thread in case there are other personalities who could take Bernies departure as an opportunity for a coup in F1 that would take it away from the profiteers and make it work better
Only knowing the story of the bitter fighting in American top flight car racing series, and not being particularly knowledgeable of the intricacies, IMHO the best thing for fans and those depending on F1 for employment would be as follows;
Someone like Ross forms a non profit motorsports organisation
Proposes a new formula based on the good parts of F1
Sets up a team in principle and gets MOU's from engine maker, chassis builder etc
Gets in with the FIA as a series
Makes a deal with a few famous circuits that cant afford F1 anymore, the deal allows them to make money and not get screwed on fees
Then invites all the F1 teams to collectively break their FOM contracts on the back of Bernies financial uncertainty/opaqueness
At this point 2 things can happen, like before Bernie bribes Ferrari and they become scabs, or the teams stick together on the basis that Ross is offering an alternative that will make no profit.
If the teams buy it then there's nothing stopping them COLLECTIVELY walking, concorde or no concorde
They all sign up with Ross
Topco, CVc and FOM no longer have a racing series and spend silly money litigating in many different countries for the next few years
In the meantime the FOM circuits get no more F1 races and have to sign up with Ross (on a better deal anyway)
The TV companies all sign with Ross
Eventually Ross buys the F1 trademarks etc from a bankrupt FOM
Bingo, we have F1 but with all earnings shared equitably amongst the participants (no special vetos) and a percentage retained each year to help circuits or teams with problems, and to improve and enhance the show. Ross' charitable non profit company gets a management fee of 50 mill or 10% of net earnings per year
EVERYONE IS HAPPY!!!
(ok there might be a few holes in this but why not?)
Could this work for a strong and respected F1 figure with no ties to any teams?
