Went for an eye test today, and it turns out I have glaucoma. They said it was a good job I came when I did, as it's in the very early stages.

I had increased pressure in both eyes, but especially the right.

Does anyone know much about this condition, or does anyone know anybody else who has had it? I believe my Uncle has had it for a while, and that it often occurs in families which have had it before.

Anyway, that's how my 2013 was rounded out. Cheers! :drink::(

Smaller eye pupil on one side, I would have said it could have came from DD but obviously it has nothing to do with what you look at.

I was at risk for glaucoma because of high pressure in my eyes. I had so weird auto-immune issue a few years back called iritis. Dozens of blood tests later and my doctor sending me to the National Health Institute in Washington DC as a test subject to be evaluated by a team of doctors there found... nothing. The treatment was prolonged steroid eye drops and although the treatment worked to get rid of the auto-immune issue, it created a situation with elevated pressure in the eyes that as you found out it the cause of glaucoma. Everything is fine now that I no longer take the eye drops, but I now have thorough eye exams yearly.

It is always DD!

I have my eye test on the 6th, to see how being diabetic will effect me. I hate anything going near my eyes so it will be fun.

Is it normal for doctors to stick their finger in your bum... every visit?

It is hereditary... I found that out when my Dad was diagnosed and the specialist suggested
each of us (siblings) get tested as soon as we hit 50, to get a base line. My Dad had the laser
surgery for both glaucoma and cataracts simultaneously, one eye at a time. Apparently, he
was supposed to use the drops "forever"!

My aunt was diagnosed with it in 1988, but she wasn't so lucky. She ended up losing the majority of her vision very quickly in spite of treatment. By 1989 she was registered blind, although she still did have very limited vision. She had to have one of her eyes removed around a decade ago after further infection, and wears a glass eye now. In her remaining eye, she has around 5% vision.

She was at the worse end of the spectrum, if they've caught it early with you it need not be a major deal. Edgar Davids (professional footballer) has lived with it for years and years and was well known for the goggles / glasses that he wore when on the field, and was one of the best footballers in the world for 5 or 6 years.
