Moto GP they said. They can't take Silverstone away from f1! But if It comes off, they could dump Catalunya, make Jerez or Valencia( Valencia would be the worst of the options despite a good gadget enhanced race last year) the Spanish GP, and Wales could have the European!

Why can't they take Silverstone away from F1? It's not a great track compared with the likes of Spa, Monza, Montreal and a few other tracks that should be on the F1 calander but are sadly missing. Catalunya is a far better track than Silverstone and fuly deserves its place in F1.

catalunia is crap poo. The worst on the calendar. And the Reason the ones you mentioned could not be the British GP is because they aren't in Britain. Silverstone is a classic and I think even better since the addition of the loop. Full of atmosphere. Magic.

I never mentioned an alternative venue for the British Gp. I just compared Silverstone to the great tracks. Donington Park would have been a far superior venue to Silverstone. The only times I've found Silverstone to provide an entertaining race is when it rains.

Remove China, where the crowd are outnumbered 2 to 1 by pit crew. Wales would very easily get to full capacity.

Actually considering they wanted 20 races and only have 19 so far, they wouldn't have to replace any!

Completely disagree with this, but then again, this conversation is a distinctly eroded thoroughfare, isn't it my good chap? :hehe::wink::wink:

The sooner you admit you're wrong the better. :hehe:

For a circuit to be on the F1 calendar there's a heap of things to be in the consideration. One of many considerations is how much of a challenge that specific circuit is. But it is also important that the calendar provides diversity, and, one thing I will say about the present calendar is it does just that.

I like Silverstone as it is, I think it is represents a different challenge to teams and drivers and for that alone it is good. It isn't a high brake or tire wear track so, it will allow the drivers to push that little bit harder - for the rubbish tires we have this year that is a a good thing. It is a super aero testing track. Sector 2 is an awesome test of the car setup.

One more thing about circuits in general IMO you have to consider the fans, especially the loyal hard-core ones. And there are lots of them that consider Silverstone a ritual. Just look at the really bad conditions we had recently and yet the core of fans just keep going. It's somewhat like Monaco, as a circuit per se it actually doesn't offer much. If someone came up with that layout for a new circuit there would be no chance for it to get on the F1 calendar. But the history of the place mean, to me, it should always have big ticks in terms of staying on the calendar.

EDIT - Oh yeah Korea is cr4p but they do have great sex-tourist hotels surrounding the circuit

Andrew, ^^^^ those reasons.

If I didn't get my annual fix of Silverstone I'd become a gibbering wreck! :spaz: I nearly did when Donnington was mooted, and it's on my doorstep!

I really miss the old Silverstone layout. Sector 3 seems so strange to me now, I still don't exactly know how it goes. And I used to be such a pro in the games when racing on the old Silverstone. :D

I don't actually recall Chine producing a race that was really dull? It's usually one of the better races, as geetface says! Just a shame about the crowds.
